Coffee Roasters

I have a decent French press that I brew the majority of my coffee with.  I also have a moka machine that I bought when I was in Italy back n October.

You guys only roast for about 5-7 minutes depending on how dark you want it?  Do you shake the machine to stir u the beans or do you just let the air do the work since the beans aren't that big?
that all depends on your popcorn machine. I have some that cannot take more than 1/2 cup of raw beans or the popper will not circulate or move the beans around. I have others that I can put 3/4 of a cup in and do just fine without any stirring on my part. There is nothing wrong in the first minute or so with stirring them and helping out the popper until some of the moisture is lost and the beans lose some weight and the popper takes over on its own moving the beans around so they won't burn. I have some poppers that reach 1st crack in 3-4 minutes and others that take 7-8 minutes to reach 1st crack.

LOL, SavinaRed you the second person to say that , Scary :)

7min, no shaking, only done if its slow to start moving, that's why its important to add the proper amount and that changes with each type of popper, 4oz for mine, others 3.5oz.
The finished "City Roast" looses .5oz in weight in moisture.

Got my New Green Beans today, couldn't just let them sit their so did some roasting.
I did the Swiss water decaf first then the Yirgacheffe, the lady dropped by with the popper she promised so I did the Dominican with that.
The SWD was a surprise, took less time, started cracking about 2 min and gave it a total of 5.5 min. It puffed up allot too, roast was very uneven. Was also very light and some beans escaped the tower.
The Yirgacheffe behaved normally and was nice and even.
The Dominican in the new popper took 9min (1250Watt as to the 1500Watt of the Cusi), not totally uniform, guessing its the beans not the process but will find out when I do another batch, have one more to do otu of the pack I bought. Also noted I didnt need the tower to stop the beans from escaping so took it off and took pictures as it roast. Did a few vids but only one was decent enough, will work on that :)
Some beans had more husk then others.

Lots of pics and some action shots :D

Did the Regular Decaff this morning and redid the Swiss water one with the new popper since the SWD last time did not look even.
Did it this time in the bathroom with window open and fan on. Big difference as to the Garage. As someone said, add a long extension cord to reduce the power so its not so fast. Doing it inside was faster, 5min instead of 9 and 4.5 for the SWD. I think 5min is a good average unless its supposed to be a better roast the longer it takes.
The Regular Decaff "Green" Beans dont look nice.
So the SWD was more even this time, the regular decaff was shiny so maybe it was 30sec too long, will see, will have a taste testing this week end :)

Just getting back on the experiment, I found the shorter time one has a stronger taste and a bit rougher then the longer one, so I would go with the longer one. Also found out why to cool them down fast, they continue cooking for a while, when I looked two days later they were darker and oily.

Yes a longer roast from a light to a medium will mellow out the coffee. Also I use 2 colanders and go back and forth between them to cool off the coffee beans ASAP.

I found the Holy Grail of popcorn poppers today when I just decided at the last minute to stop into a local goodwill store. It is the 1500 watt West Bend Poppery made in USA. Here she is !

Congrats!, now show us what she can do :)
I will give her a go this weekend. Most geeks try and modify them but I'm not that king of handyman when it comes to electrical stuff. So she will remain stock.  :)
