lighting using cold cathode bulbs from computers (CCFL) for grow lights

Since I live in a very warm (if not hot) country and that I can't find any proper grow lights here. I might as well use CCFLs as grow lights. What do you guys think? I'll just use 12v inverters as a power source. And since they're just CCFLs they'll be cheap to run for long hours (20 hours a day, best for peppers right?).

What do you guys think? As on my seed starting station that i'm planning.

They're available in UV, Red, White, Green, Blue colors.

I'm guessing I should use a combination of UV (probably 4), Red (just one or two to get the full spectrum), White (2-4) and maybe even blue.

Any advice? comments?

I plan on using a bunch of 'em together. My seed starting station isn't large, just a desk. So it might work. Not sure. =D

What are they?

After a short initial investigation it seems they will not output much light.

was worried about that too.

guess i'm gonna have to go with standard florescent lights then.

thanks

Standard fluros are what I use. dual 40 watt t12 fixtures. They are pretty cheap and last a few years before needing replacement. I got my fixtures for 10 bucks a piece and the bulbs can be had for about 3 bucks a piece I think

Alright. Thanks millworkman!

just gotta save up.

living on student's allowance for the next 8 months and all that is bad for the cash flow.
