Spicegeist 2020

Hello friends, acquaintances, and strangers! I didn't grow much this past season, just a couple of plants to tide me over. This year I'm doing a small grow to continue a few things I'd like to keep going. Much of the seed I'm attempting to germinate is a bit old, so I'm starting some now to see how it goes. I put them in the grow medium on Nov 18 and my first two hooks came up today on Nov 25 - not bad!

Seedlings look good, SG. The older seeds can be
tough to germinate, I hope you wind up with some
success with them.

Good luck going forward.

Some are more etiolated than others, but they look OK. Maybe they'll turn out alright in the end. Time will tell.

I don't think those look too horrible, my friend,
they will green up more with the lengthening days.
All-in-all, they look great for windowsill plants!

I started them with standard jiffy trays you get in a hardware store in the US. Now they're in 2.5" pots.

Thanks! I think so too. I think the length of day and the weak light puts them into a quasi dormant state. I'd love to be able to just do this instead of fussing with all the lights. I'm just a hobby grower, so I don't need commercially productive plants by any specific time.

I don’t know where he got those 2.5 inch pots, but last year I bought seed trays from bootstrapfarmer.  Not cheap, but good quality that will last for years.

Some are dying off, I'm not fussing too much about it. I'm curious if any will survive the winter without the artificial lights.

What do you think is causing the die-off?

The rest look great. Hope your window-sill
method proves to be successful.

All the dead ones look to be the ones you forgot to water. No seriously tho, I think you can keep them going without lights for some time. I'm more concerned with how cold they are getting next to that window. It's not too late to put them on a light
