soil Soil

Hi there!!! Is it a good idea to use ordinary dirt from the garden and mix it with some potting soil? I want to use some 5 gallon buckets for my habaneros to grow in, but its a bit expensive to fill all the way to the top with just potting soil, I need like 6 buckets. I also have an 11 inch diameter by 9 inch deep pot, do you guys think its deep enough for a buth jolokia pepper to grow in???? Thank you

With garden soil you would be better off making a raised bed for your plants. Container growing requires a more airy well drained mix.

It is not really a good idea to use garden dirt in a container. If you are looking for a low-cost way to fill a bunch of pots, you might think about buying a few bags of peat to mix in with your existing potting mix.
