seeds Seed starting system using plastic water bottles

You've got me inspired.

I've got a creek running through my back yard that is always full of trash. I feel the need to grow some peppers and herbs in Genuine Three Mile Creek Trash (tm)!

Maybe this would also work in a much bigger plastic container using a much bigger wick cloth for a adult plants and maybe you could also add some fertilizer in the water too while at it.

Check out this this thing:

That's a great idea, and thanks for the link. I am using hydro nutes already. But for larger plants, you could mix in slow release and just have water in there. A Scale up to a 2-liter size would be cool.

There is also this system:
Should work great with coco.

Damn, this could really work with large pots with coco coir+perlite and fertilizer mixture.
I'm trying a version of self-watering trays now, based on a Howard Resh design. You can see them in my last grow update, but here's a pic. I'm working on a video showing how I put them together. It's coco/perlite mix with hydro nutes.

Nice and put the capillary Matting in there too, because it could stop any overwatering from happening.

I am going to build similar system for my coco seedlings as it should stop the overwatering from happening and i already have the trays for them.

Damn, the terracotta thing is working right now as i can see small tears forming on the surface, so it will retain uniform moisture in the cloth as long as it has some water in it and the coco coir have already soaked some of the stuff as it is also moist in the surface.

Used thick frost blanket i found from the local shop as they didnt have the actual capillary matting, but this stuff seems to work just fine for the purpose as it is made from the same material.

If the self watering thing work like it is working today for a week at least:

Then we got a pretty nice watering system for the coco plants. Bottom stays wet for feeding the chilis and the rest of the coco coir stays moist for the roots to breath like a fine working wick thing should do.

Upgraded the self watering system for more even distribution of water and nutrition for the chilis:
