Piribibi F2 Selections

Made these 5 selections from around 50 F2-plants - again I think I have been able to achieve my goal even though I am only growing small scale - so just give breeding a try... The selections all have cluster fruit-set (aka umbrella gene), hot to very hot pods, great chinense-typical aroma.

Those look great! The clustering is a really good trait. What pepper did you use for the cluster trait? I've been wanting to breed for this trait, but I haven't seen it in c. chinese.

Some nice colors to them :) The Brito's Mystery Peach (C. Chinense) I'm growing forms pods in clusters as well. Pretty small pendant shaped pods, low on heat but tasty.

The umbrella gene means that from a node with a cluster of fruits, 4-5 new, long shoots form and so forth. As opposed to the normal, when a node splits into 2 short shoots before forming nodes again. The Pimenta Morango is a chinense source for this trait...
You can read about the "umbrella branching" and dominant/recessive genes in this paper - See "Branching habits" p. 1177: http://www.aseanbiotechnology.info/Abstract/21027547.pdf

Nice work Donnie.  Great idea to try to preserve that trait from the Pimenta Morango.

Beautiful plants Donnie.
Love the umbrella branching, it's very unique.
Thank you both. I am looking forward to seeing your crosses next season, Spice. Especially the second generation of chiltepin x Morouga, which is about the same concept as my Nagaquin (Naga Morich x Pequin de Ischia), i.e. A wild crossed with a superhot...

Okay, you probably mean my Sonoran Chiltepin x 7 Pot Barrackpore... I have plenty of F2 seed if you want to grow it out too...

Nice with the umbrella traits, iv'e been trying to get that from a scotch bonnet mixed in with my reaper's conjoined twin trait and a trinidad perfume's three leaf trait, but it hasnt worked so well. Looking forward to these being f4 to f8 so that the rest of us can grow these, the pods look amazing.
