soil PH level is for soil or water?

My soilless lable as 5.8 PH
Home water is 8
I make ph down to 6.2-7 in the water that i use
I check ph at the water before i water the plants,
i dont check the soil ph (dont have the tools)

Correct?

Sounds close, i had thought you wanted the water closer to 5.5 to 6.5 (for hydro) and 6.5 to 7.0 for soil i beilve, also might want to check the run off also, it should come out the same, or close to water the water is.
