peppers are easy to winterise

I have found peppers to be easy to handle in the winters of the state of Maine. Not to cutting and great growth. Plants have there own system and in the past I have had habaneros which have lasted for ever, well over 5 years. I have just left them in a southern window and kept them tidy. I am now going to try my new seeds of the trinidad butch t and the whole lot of top hot peppers including the scorpion peppers, bhut jolokias and others. I do know some of whitch take some time to germinate. Please give me your input on what you know? I whould appreciate all of your incite. Thanks again for your help. By the way I have always started my seeds i.e. habaneros in wet paper towels left in a window sill and it work well in winter to germinate. All will be helpful.
