July Pod Porn! Hello August!

Heres some of my July Harvest, hello August!

The plastic tub contains the fully ripened pods that are stored in the fridge for a while before going to the freezer or my belly!

The plate has some pods that were recently picked and are ripening under fluorescent lights.

The "West Indies" type habaneros get very large, almost 70% of my crop so far are chicken egg sized which is very exciting!

Heres the largest I have picked so far.

Thats all for now, I cant wait for the rest of the "West Indies" Habaneros to ripen. They are almost as hot as the Caribbean Reds but with a flavor and aroma that is less potent, more Orange hab'ish with a very odd cotten candy taste.

Looking good RichardK. I've heard of putting food in a paper bag to encourage ripening but never under florescents. That work well?

Chlorophyll turns into the red pigments and other chemicals like the ones responsible for flavor and aroma.

They need energy to convert from one to the other, and to my knowledge they can use internal stores of energy to do this but since the pod acts like a leaf, they can use light energy as well.

So if you want them to ripen faster, you would want to place them in an area with light. Like putting a green tomato in the window to ripen.

Try a little expierment, put dark tape on one side of a pod that is outside, when the exposed side ripens, the other side should be significantly less ripe.

They look like they were very happy pods Richard, i couldn't spot one blemish on any of them :)

Kudos.

DAMN! That caribb are extremely productive, and its amazing that you got that harvest using fluoro, i dont think theres any info on the internet suggesting that such a thing is possible. I believe my caribb red is my most productive plant, might be my favorite amongst my currently grown.
