hydroponic Hydroponics and food grade plastics

I've started looking into Hydroponics to grow my Jolokias. I stumbled across a very neat system that has FREE plans with it!!! It is completely self contained....here is a pic:

and here is the website it came from....http://www.container-gardening-for-you.com/free-hydroponics-plans.html

Most storage containers are type 5 PP (polypropylene) including my shop bought nft system. It shouldn't give you any problems.

I too believe in reuse rather than landfill, but reusing plastics for long periods of time with acidic nutrient solutions will leach certain chemicals from the plastic as well as degrade them.

Ideally any food grade bucket is good for a couple grows. PP is still your best bet if you are going all "organic".

I use washed kitty liter buckets(not the pans silly!).

Honestly, the sheer amount of phosphorus compounds in bloom nutes (some radioactive) are more likely to have negative health effects, if any effects are even discernible at all in our short lives.

Get growing and eat up! Something else will surely kill you first!!
