FREE PLANTS CENTRAL CA

Long story short:
I moved to Tulare, CA for a job 3 months ago, and brought my pepper seedlings with me. I work as a travel nurse, and was working a temp to permanent position(management). I could not come to terms with the hospital and my contract is up this week. I have an incredible pepper collection (16 in 5 gallon pots with more in smaller pots)in my backyard, and the CA state border patrol will NOT allow my plants out of the state(especially through the AZ border). I am forced to give(trade) them away. I have to move this weekend. BTW, Tulare is between Fresno and Bakersfield. I have a friend at work willing to take them, but thought I'd offer them here first.

Thats to bad, sorry to hear you cant take them. My dad is a traveling RN he just left a job in San Diego. Do you think you could just put them in a U-haul and sneak them thru? Hahaha lost my nursing lisense because of my collection of exotic plants, hot peppers.

that sucks b@ll$.

If im living near you, ill drive a pick up down there :) but i dont so ill just lurk around here.

Good luck, origamiRN, hope everything works out okay for you

Tried to PM you but wouldn't go. I'm only an hour away and definately interested in some of them. Send me a private message

Good to see the Arizona border is protected against illegal bhut jolokias. Is there actually someone checking U-hauls and cars for plants? What a joke.

They have plant stations at every road in or out of Calif. and they say they don't waste money , don't know the difference between a Calif Anaheim or new Mexico Anaheim

Heck, it was hard enough sneaking them in! But that was when they were lil babies.

Sorry, my mailbox is full. I can't figure out how to save them with the new website setup. I'll PM you when I get it figured out. THP, any instructions?

Yes, it's true. It's like going through customs/border crossing, both at the same time.
The longer I'm in the bankrupt, fascist state of California, the more I think I'm living in Mexico, and it's not because of all of the Mexicans either.
(Not to get political, but aside from the local drug gangs, I'm very happy that we have Mexicans in the state. I think it make Cali a better place.)

I have been in and out of "The Mexican Socialist Republic of California" many times as a trucker, they only checked for produce on the way into Cali, not on the way out. I would not think you would have any problem leaving with plants, and AZ didn't check for them. Let us know how it goes!.

Agree with RS67Man. They will check you on the way into Cali but I've never, ever been stopped leaving Cali. Plus Cali is the only state I've ever known/heard that checks for incoming fruit/plants.

This sounds crazy. I'm in Florida and they are paranoid as anyone about anything that will infect citrus down here. But they dont stop people at the Georgia border and rummage through your cars. I can see if they want to inspect an 18 wheeler with a couple tons of potatoes, but each car coming in? And do Grandma and Grandpa Jones from Phoenix have to sit at a border station every time they visit the grandkids in LA?

That's crazy, I didn't even know we have border patroles between states, much less for plants. I've driven all over the midwest, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, etc. and never been stopped at a border for anything, I just see the sign and drive right through. That really sucks.

I've never been stopped crossing into Florida either...

CA has ag inspection stations at every major crossing. Most of the time they just waive you through, another real waste of CA tax $$. Had friends from Germany traveling cross country to CA and when they got stopped at the ag station the guy asked them is they had any fruits and vegetables and they replied why are you hungry not having a clue what were being asked.

I have in-laws in AZ and I have taken several plants at a time TO AZ from So Cal on the 60 and never had a problem. I do however have to pull over and they ask if you have plants/produce coming INTO Cali. Too bad your not close to me I have a buddy with a few acres who would love to take them.
