The August TD is Five Dollar Feast! Create a THP-worthy meal for just $5. This is a true TD. Who can do it? Who can create an original devilishly delicious meal for just $5? Can you?

1. Proof of Life in final post = A picture/scan of a dated and itemized receipt or combination of receipts that do not exceed $5 before taxes.

2. You may use the following staples for your meal, but everything else must be purchased.

Milk/Cream
Butter
Eggs
Dry Grains (flour, meal, etc.)/Yeast/Crumb
Sugars/Sweeteners
Acids (vinegar, bottled lemon, etc.)
Oils
Herbs/Spices
Salt & Pepper
Prepared Condiments (mayo, hot sauce, etc.)
Garnish (must truly be a garnish and not part of the meal)

3. Meal must have a hot pepper ingredient.

4. You must create one official entry post in this topic with a name for your creation, ingredients, cooking methods, and THREE MAX presentation pics, the first being the receipt(s)! Choose the best. If you wish to add more pics make sure you do so in unofficial entry posts before your final post (teasers).

Example
Name of dish:
Ingredients:
Pic 1: Receipt(s)
Cooking Methods:
Pic 2: Presentation
Pic 3: Additional presentation pic

Ends Sunday at 10 pm EDT!

Begin!

*You will be disqualified if ingredients used are not staples or on the receipt(s).

Dried chiles work just fine! I plan on using one fresh serrano chile, and dry red savina habanero and dry fatalii powders.

Cayenne powder and prepared hot sauces should also count as a hot chile ingredient. . Jalapenos count! I think anything hotter than a bell pepper counts as a "hot" pepper. Just use what you have available, although, remember...any FRESH chiles must be bought with the $5.

I was just taking pictures of the receipts and realized I paid .03 Tax!

Chico, Wagon... are you guys gonna jump in?

What do you define as a hot pepper?

And you're a mod? ;)

Hot peppers (and hot dogs) are like porn. Kinda hard to truely define, but you damn sure know it when you see it.

Boss...I thought we had a bit more time on this one?

<edit> I'm assuming it would be fine to bunch the ingredients on a larger receipt...in other words, I go to the store, spend $200...but save my TD suff fo the end of the receipt, circle the items, and total them.

You already did, you had time to shop. There was an official shopping topic you missed and staples and the $5 thing have been listed for awhile.

Right...caught the thread...I think I'll make it. I'm planning a 5qt crockpot full of ramen, with a sliced jalapeno on top.

@Salsalady:

Yes, I plan on joining the fray, but will probably start prepping & cooking late Saturday/early Sunday. This will be my first cooking competition, should be fun! If nothing else, I could prolly post it under the "Drunken Chef" thread.

I think the rules are very clear.

I'm out. Just back from ma's house in AR. Burgers tonight, steak joint tomorrow, and pac cod on sunday. Guitars and missylou are too much in the mix. Ya'll do your 'thang. Hot as hell here in TX. Too hot to even bbq righteous. Go Pauly, SalsaLady and SoFlo!

TB you're gonna get the DQ crown this time. In, out, in, out, in... out, and announced it every time

LB- I put my TD ingredients on a separate list, just to be safe. I literally bought one small carrot for ~.10, but that's all I needed for the TD, so it went on the separate receipt, along with one piece of celery.........

Thanks for the vote of confidence, TB, we'll miss you here this weekend but I bet we'll see you in the Drunken Chef thread! Things will be interesting around here tomorrow morning as I'll be cooking and taking pictures for the TD as well as for a Mexican food/DC party with Scoville Deville and friends.

'Wagon, the chicken can be a freebie if it was LAID on Friday!

Where IS JayT, anyway!?!?!!!
