You may need the chiller.  I have chilled 3 gallon batches in the sink with a lot of ice.  A 5 gallon batch might take too long that way, unless you have a lot of ice on hand.

I definitely need to get a chiller. Might take my butt the hardware store to see what I can put together. If not, I'll just order one. My ice maker does crank out some ice but dunno if its gonna be enough. My goal is to brew this weekend.

So, like ...

Freeze water in two or three 2L PET bottles, and when the boil ends, throw 'em in ...

Food safe plastic is an insignificant health concern, especially in the short term ...

The boil will sanitize the surface, but you could also dip 'em in sanitizer first too ...

I wouldn't recommend sticking to this regiment, but I also wouldn't recommend not brewing because you don't have a chiller yet either ...

Or just hold back some volume of water, and add a bag of ice after you brew ...

It's not perfect, but it'll work ...
Or, freeze your own block of water in a metal pot, and then loosen it with hot water and use that ...

5 gallons...you are really jumping into the deep end. I suggest you make yourself a checklist of things to do in the order that they need to be done. Any of us here will gladly look it over. It helped me the first time and I only did a 1 gallon.

I really am, but I'll post up a game plan for you guys to look over.

Just testing things out a bit. Curious to know how fast I can bring 6 gallons to a boil. Oh look, the first problem, a leak! Hopefully it stops once it gets hot for the first time..

About 1hr without the lid and it's reached mashing temps. It would have been further along if I had the burner turned all the way up the whole time, didn't realize until 30 minutes in it was only half way..
