those metal probe things are just garbage. absolute garbage.
 
you should do this in a cup of some sort. and with a calibrated PH meter.
 
we really need to get a sticky put up about how to do proper soils slurry ph test .
 
the cabbage juice thing is cool though. anyone ever hear of that? ive not.
