soil Hanna HI 99121Direct soil PF meter... worth the cost, any better at lower price ?

For those who rely on their plants for incomes, what PH Testers do you use ?
This comes with calibration fluid to for 4.01 and 7.01 settings.

This should be accurate considering the price, over $300.
Are there testers that are as good if not better and as accurate for less money ?

Ghosty...

dont waste your money on that. get on ebay, and find a real ph meter meant for a laboratory environment. then get on cole parmer and buy a plane jane epoxy bodied general purpose gell filled ph electrode.

most of the stuff hanna sells is junk, look for something made by thermo scientific, or hach or beckman etc... these companies make their bread and butter makeing analytical istruments. you can get an amazing ph meter off of ebay for like 50 bucks that will auto calibrate to 5 buffers, display mV values, maby even log ph measurements ... manually or auto Atc correct...

here for example.

this is an awsome ph meter, it will do all of the above except the logging. you will just need an electrode, jump on cole parmer and buy like a 100$ electrode or w/e is in your price range.

buisness go out of buisness or sell off their VERY good equipment to buy new stuff all the time, this stuff ends up on ebay for WAY TO LITTLE. i bought an accumet ab15 for like 100 bucks with a great double junction atc electrode. you definatly want to invest in a good set of buffers... some wash bottles... storage solution and electrode cleaning solution. with all this stuff you can keep electrodes going for years of moderate use.

look for a probe without a bulb guard, bulb guards trap dirt and perite and shit against the glass bulb, it sucks. however since nothing is protecting the bulb... its easier to break, so you will want to get a cheep lab stand and a 3 claw type test tube gripper. you can buy actual electrode stands, they are awsome, but they are like 200 bucks.

I've thought about it, but didn't want to dump a bunch of coin into them.
