standard orange habanero's don't seem to be a thing... they burn my mouth ALOT but no other effects. I've got these other peppers called goats weed. these peppers burn so bad that my ears start hurting really bad and sometimes my hearing is impaired. if it lasts to long my arms start to tremble. ahhaha
haha anyone else ever get that? the deafness and the shakes?

Yep for a hab or naga. Maybe the Naga wasn't too sensible but I've never used milk, only once last week for my hands after de-seeding. You've got to try these things.

I have eaten a whole Caribbean Red Habanero (just last week) but I'm not gonna pretend I enjoyed the experience. I did not enjoy it. In fact, it sucked and I am unlikely to ever do it again.
I did it because I felt obligated (cuz I grow em now), and of course I wanted to be able to say that I have done it here in the land of pepperheads.
Call it getting some street cred :)
I do not believe that anyone can eat entire superhots, Naga's etc, and actually claim that they enjoy it.
I believe that they may enjoy the idea that they do it, and the notoriety that may come from doing it, but not the actual doing.

I don't agree with that at all. I think it all has to do with your heat tolerance. Some might find a hab or naga as hot as I find a jalapeno, and I enjoy jalapenos

I don't know if I can, but I probably won't do it. That doesn't go for each and every c.chinense, but not habaneros.

I don't agree with that at all.
No offense, but in spite of that fact, I will still stand by my opinion :)
I will qualify it by saying that if there are folks out there that experience a Naga Morich like you or I might feel a jalapeno, then they did indeed suffer a lot before reaching that point, or there is something the matter with their ability to feel pain. :)
If they feel it all and started out enjoying that level of burn right off the bat, then they prolly also enjoy being tied up and whipped :hell:

Now, i'm not sure about the naga. I have some growing now. Ask me next month. I'm pretty much petrified of them, though i am dying to cook with them.

Ok, I enjoyed the burn from the bigining of my tolerance to it's current MECHA level of tolerance. Pain's been a very large part of my life so I've always been used to it. Don't like pain, but it doesn't bother me as much as others.
When it comes to cap induced pain, I feel it's different type of pain so I really really enjoy the burn. It's a blast. We all know I've done the Naga and the bhut (still say they are the same). I've done it over and over again. I love it. For the record, I don't like being tied up or whipped.....I'm a slow and steady lover but like it dirty occasionally.....no donkies....

Yes, I can. And I actually enjoy the taste & heat of habaneros. Let me qualify that by saying that the ones I get are from supermarkets & probably aren't as hot as homegrown. I'm not certain of that, just a guess. And I have also found that heat varies somewhat from pepper to pepper. Some habs give me great flavor & great (but enjoyable) burn. Others leave me gasping for breath. But, I still eat them. Granted, most of my hab consumption is from chopping them up & putting them in food, but still.

I've never eaten an entire hot pepper of any kind at once. I do enjoy eating a piece of one each time I make something with any type of pepper. It's become a standard to me to try a piece each time.
I love to cook. I learned from a world class Chef, many, many years ago. One of the things a person who is going to cook for a living must do is learn how to judge how something will taste when combined with other foods or when cooked in a particular manner. "Tasting" a recipe by reading it is a MUST for any professional cook. To gain this ability, you have to become intimately familiar with each type of food as it tastes in very exact circumstances. That includes raw in many cases such as peppers.
My tolerance is pretty high, but not so much that I would enjoy an entire pepper of any kind. It would be a sensory overload to me. I'll stick with a piece of each one as I use them.
On another aspect of the "eating whole peppers" thing, there are a lot of different types of people out there. Some like to eat certain foods more than other people enjoy eating them. My God, look at Chocolate, Wine, individual types of meats as well as thousands of others. There are people who simply LOVE certain types of food or food that is cooked in a particular manner.
It's not strange or even uncommon. I mean really, who would think that you'd find people who LOVE to eat whole hot peppers on a group that is available world wide and NAMED "The Hot Pepper"???
hehe, actually, I'm surprised that there isn't more than there is on the group. It's obviously a magnet for those who enjoy this particular type of food more than others.
Good luck to all of you! I'm glad that there is so many types of people in the world. It keeps it interesting!!!!
Most of my pepper usage is in the rice dishes I enjoy so much. I do put a lot of them in some dishes. I love the flavor and the heat.

Welcome to The Hot Pepper, most of the members here believe Tabasco is only a cheap mouthwash when they run outa Listerine, and Jalapenos they snack on as candy. Hey, some people in the world do like that kind of stuff:lol:. It's not my thing, but I've always had a high pain tolerance. I remember one time I stabbed myself in the thigh with my hunting knife by accident. 2 inches deep to the bone, and an inch wide. What did I do. Walk upstairs to who is now my wife. Smoke a cigarette and calmly tell her I needed to go to the ER. She said.....Bull FU@#ing shit prove it. Well, I dropped my pants and her eyes bulged out of her head. (Well.......I know I opened the door for something else, but not that this time.LOL!) We went to the hospital and I watched the doc to everything. There was even this kidney bean looking thing in my wound. He said. What's this little guy here? The dork poked it and it squirted. I was thinking. Well my vein you retard. I thought the whole ordeal was cool. I'm not right though. I still wouldn't intentionally harm myself though. Now about those orange habs. Yeah, they are definitely hot when they are fresh, and do give me the hickups, but I enjoy the endorphin rush I get from them. Everynow and then if I have some I pop one in my mouth.

I will have to say I do prefer makign stuff with peppers than just eating 'em raw. But mincing up a whole orange hab into a bit of onion, pickle and mayo just rocks on a sandwich. I do that daily. :)
I like layering flavors..like putting diced habs with NagaSav and garlic..that's a great flavor/heat combo.
I do enjoy the flavors and rush from just munching on a stoopidly hot pepper though. Gotta eat your veggies eh?

I was able to eat half of one. I'll be doing more soon.
I was floored by the flavor of the orange hab. Like nothing I'd even eaten before. Its not like I've had many peppers though.
When you cut up a orange hab on a sandwich is the heat diminished at all? The flavor still powerful?
I know I should try but I figured I'd ask.

the flavor & heat stays, unless theres other ingredients in the sandwich to mellow the heat out, like cheese or maybe some type of sauce like mayo or ? if you put sauce on your sandwiches (not hot sauce)
try caribbean reds, now those have a better flavor & heat vs a orange hab, IMO

Well I put two Orange Habs in a sandwich with cheese spread, lettuce, tomato and a bit of pickle, or in a sandwich with ham, salsa, lettuce and cucumber and just add salad cream/mayonnaise to it and it's not too hot then.

I ate a Fatalli since I grew it I had to try it and yes everyone here was right that they are hotter than a Caribbean Red. Last week I took a bite of a Naga Morrich and that is one hot a$$ pepper as my friend calls it the "Pinnacle of Pain". I don't think I will be just sitting around munching on those. I have noticed that my tolerance has increased and I keep needing to add hotter peppers to my food. Ask me the same question next year.
You know Fataliis are sneaky little b@$tards. I made a quesadilla last night and put a fair amount of the fatalii sauce I made on it. My mouth barely burned at all, but the sweat just rolled down my face/head/neck etc. It didn't seem like it was that hot, but halfway through the quesadilla I had to stop and regroup.

I have had orange, red, chocolate, and white whole one way or another at some time but to tell you the truth you live and you learn. I eat all my super hot chopped finely the placed in the cheapest store bought salsa you can find, presto! Eating whole and straight is not very high on my list. Of all of them the white habanero is the most doable because of it size. They are so tempting beacause of the extreme fruity flavor that you know you'll find before the heat kicks in. I love habaneros!!!

I've recently worked my way up to being able to eat a habanero. It's really not that bad, but you shouldn't go for it all at once. Start slowly with a pepper that you can (just barely) tolerate. Then move slowly upward, and before long, you'll also be able to eat a habanero without too much trouble. I have not tried a "super hot" yet, though.

haha, yeah. well I guess I know what I've gotten myself into when I ordered the nagas... I'm actually really excited about it, should be a lot of fun. first time I tried a red savina it was just way too hot for me, but I had a fun time. the pain is just good. since the nagas are about twice as hot, it should be twice as fun, right? ;)
by the way, I haven't had a red savina in a good while, might have built up some tolerance to it... but I have my doubts. :D

AAAAAACH!!! HURTING MY EARS!!!!!! For God's sake Man!!!!
Grow a frigging tomato plant! Cheap store bought salsa?????
All you need is a knife and one more plot for a tomato plant. There is NOTHING better than fresh pods and fresh tomatoes, and I DON't like tomatoes.(unless their yuckiness is diced up with sufficient heat and some salt;))

Lol, to each their own, but......
The First Fresh salsa out of the garden each year is one of my greates joys!!
Grow onions, garlic, tomatos, peppers, and maybe cilantro, and add a little salt, you can have the freshest salsa on earth.

Cheezy I grow my own tomatoes and get a huge June harvest. My wife makes the best salsa out of canned tomatoes and my pickled jalapeno year round. The only reason I said cheap store bought is a fresh pepper out of your garden will even make this salsa terrific. Anytime I sample a new pepper I always finely chop and put in some salsa and sample. I don't recommend eating any superhots raw.

Right on. I still would never buy salsa, but I am glad to hear you use homegrown canned, try fresh soetime!

i like certain salsas from the store, but they definately cant compare to fresh salsa; ive had hab salsa my buddy made, wasnt a fan, it was too thick, but the heat level was good, cant wait to try my bhut salsa, im a little worried about eating one of those straight, considering they are 3-4x hotter than an orange hab, and thats a pepper i can just barely handle...

After gorging on my fresh chile assortment from a few weeks ago, http://www.thehotpepper.com/showthread.php?t=7783, I pickled the rest of them. So far the pickled Fattallis were great. I still have jars of Bhut Jolokia, Fatalli, Devils Tongue and Red Savina. I prefer them raw but they'll do in a pinch.

whuew, hot hot hot hot. just ate a whole red savina.
I got hiccups too... kind of scared of doing the habanero poppers now o_o
edit: nah nevermind, I'm quite fine. I just get scared when I get hiccups. soo, is there any way to get rid of the hiccups?
hmm, I just realized I sometimes get hiccups from jalapeņos too... and those aren't really hot.
edit2: too late didn't take any pics, but can take pictures of when I do the poppers. kind of excited now.
thanks

hiccups can be controlled completely with the power of your mind.
I always relish the challenge!
You must focus on calming completely. I have to close my eyes.
Still I only do it 50% of the time, but it can be stopped by sheer will power.

really? I was pretty nervous before I ate it, so I guess if what you say is true that might have something to do with it? they did stop after about 15 seconds, but I had like 1 per second so it was pretty annoying.

Yes it can, i was taught this method by a friend about 4 years ago, we were drinking i got the the hiccups, had them for about an hour then my mate says "get rid of those hiccups" i say "
yeah right smartass" he says "You are more powerful than that, concentrate and they will go away". It worked, one just has to calm down, breath slowly and try not to think of hiccuping! Practise and you will be a master hiccup killer:)

Hey munchman, congrats on defeating the mighty Red Savina! Now all you have left to face is the slayer of false chiliheads, the incomprehensible, eye-opening, mind altering heat of the Indian cobra snake chilies. :hell:
Good luck.

Does anyone else have this problem while eating raw chiles?
I have this unintentional bad habit of breathing in through my mouth as I'm chewing on a hab. All the chile fumes get sucked right down my wind pipe.
munchzilla
10-20-2008, 07:56 PM
not having that issue, I just close my mouth and enjoy it.
by the way what I meant with defeating the red savina was without having to drink anything to it until the heat was gone.

Don't forget the Fatali..it's in a class of it's own for both flavor and heat.
Or, try a Chocolate Habanero for "WTF..that's not a habanero" Fun. :)
IMO, pure pain and heat....Bih/Bhut Jolokia. Is just mean.
Nothgin like it. Like a punch in the throat...with fire. Morich/Dorset they have at least flavor then fire...not the Bih.
Has a sweetish, piqunte, almost floral start...for abotu 15-30 seconds. Then, IT BEGINS.
Then, after a minute, it REALLY begins. Then, about 3mins in, you wonder WHY you ever did this stoopidness because it hasn't peaked yet.. ;)
10-20 mins later, you remember to breathe again.

Curious..you said it was a naga jolokia?
Some of those are long and skinny PC-1 hybrids, and not near as hot as the "real" ones like the Naga Morich, Bih Jolokia or Bhut Jolokia.
The true ones are sorta hab-shaped but longer. :)

pretty please
And don't feel bad munchzilla, I feel your pain. I ate a whole chocolate habanero that made me throw up, burned the crap out of my stomach and burned worse on the way up. Same thing happened when I ate a piece of a T. Scorpion. I guess I'm just a hurler. I decided that for now when I try superhots I'm going to chew them up and spit them out. I still get the ridiculous burn but w/o the vomit :):onfire:
Hopefully one day my stomach will be as badass as the rest of me.
