Today i got the urge, so i stopped at Whole Foods on the way home. I picked up some decent looking orange habs that looked okay. Some were iffy, but i got a handful of good ones. The serranos looked like ass, and i really wanted some serrano. I also snagged 2 giant poblanos.

I also picked up these delicious treats...
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b313/fineexampl/IMG_0329.jpg

I munched on a few of the pickled piri-piri and they're really good. I could snack on these any day. Real sweet and a mild heat. They'd go great in a roast beef sub.

The serrano prickly pear promised heat, but i couldn't taste any. This stuff is MAD thick too. I could barely get it out of the bottle. That didn't stop me from covering my burger in it. I used my 5-chili dry rub on the burger and topped it with worcestershire and this sauce. Dinner was pretty good.

I'm saving the baked brie for later in the week. The tuna is lunch for tomorrow. I used the leftover hamburger meat and crumbled it up and mixed it with some couscous and the drippings from tonight's dinner (low fat beef, so it was almost all juice and seasoning). I than used it to fill the poblanos. I popped those in a ziplock and poured in some crushed tomatos, fresh basil, and my homemade habanero sauce to let it all marinate for a day or two.

It's gonna be a good week. :onfire:

ps: i'll pop in to update this from time to time so as not to flood various threads. stay tuned.

I have alot of my inlaws trained to buy any hot pepper product they find and bring it to me.

a few weeks ago I was given a bag of sauces and peppers from my cousins holiday and that kind of stuff blows the shi* out of xmas where I get tshirts that are too small and crap I don't need.

I was never ever a fan of pickled hot peppers but I was given a jar of pepper encinies and I use them everyday.

I also have a huge pickled egg jar about half full of eggs and I keep throwing in any hot peppers I don't eat .

fun jar....

I think it's a precursor to G'Day brand or something as I can't find this exact type anymore with the whole birdseye chilis in it.

No idea if the stuff is any good. I found it because of the canned chili tuna thread. they have other flavors as well. I'll report back with a taste assessment. I aspire to be an Aussie so i can eat tuna every day.

And trust me...i laugh at the Outback Steak House menu too. The food there is awful. I just never realized you Aussies ate giant fried onions so much. ;)

Just finishing the tuna right now. There is indeed what appears to be a whole birds eye chili in each can. It's quite tasty actually. This is IMO better than the Starkist or Bumblee stuff, but kinda pricey for tuna.

Still munchin the piri-piris. YUM!

I munched a rehydrated chipotle just now. Blech! no flavor!:( I will need to powder these and add some hab.

That batch #114 is pretty good stuff, bro.Yeah, i did a sample of it HippySeedStyle and it was pretty badass. Really sweet up front with no frontal burn, but from the back of my tongue and all the way down it just burned like acid. It felt like acid reflux actually. I prefer a frontal or middle burn actually, so i'm glad it was just the small bottles that they had.

So...this batch 114.
It's FAR too sweet for my tastes. It'd be best suited for chicken. I'm having some inside an empenada with beef and habanero inside. The pineapple is very apparent in this sauce and while i like pineapple, i don't like it with beef in this case. I'm going to say that it's the worst sauce for this meal i could have chosen.

I think i'll pick up the other two varieties of hot sauce the store had though. You know, just to check.

Also...i like the flask style bottles. I could use the empties for my own sauce.

i'm sitting here munching my 2nd mazzetti hab.

the first one was good. hot, but tolerable.

i took another one a little bit later.

All i can say is that right now i'm finding it hard to talk. My mouth feels like i decided to suck on a hot curling iron. I know once the pain is over i'll feel really freakin good, but holy mother of god. sometimes i wonder why we do this. i just sit and question why we can sit here and voluntarily inflict pain on ourselves and all for the purposes of eating a food or food product. Yes, i sit there and wonder how a person is willing to dive into this pit of pain and torture, and than i go back and i take another bite.

I'll finish this pepper in a little bit. The moments before the fire ignites are very very good.

My god, my lips are even burning.

I'll have to buy a jar for home. This one's staying at the office.

After my chili eating fiesta testerday, i was suffering from some severe hunan hole. my ring was a burnin! i still don't feel so hot, but i think it had to do with those empenadas. i don't do well with fried foods. i should have known better.

After munching some blueberries on the ride in, i'm now having the last can of the g'day gourmet chili tuna. This can is NOTICEABLY hotter than the last can. I like it!

this particular can had two WHOLE chilis inside! Nice!! What i recommend is to wash your hands and squeeeeeeeeeeze the guts of the pepper out into the tuna. It's all nice and mushy and you can mix it in. Yum!! All the fish oils have leached inside and extracted some yummy pepper goodness.

Busha Brown's Hot Pepper Jelly (scotch bonnets, nice!), Dave's Hurtin Habanero Honey Mustard, Blair's Heat Chipotle Slam, and Mad Dog 357
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b313/fineexampl/cape%20may%202008/IMG_0368.jpg

Fort Collins Brewery 12pk
I had all but the stout and The Kidd and Z were my hands-down favorites. The red was too bitter for my taste and the pomegranate was forgettable. I'll be buying the other two again however.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b313/fineexampl/cape%20may%202008/IMG_0370.jpg

So far i had the Blair's and while it's nothing to yell about, it was pretty good. My only complaint? It tastes like alot of Blair's sauces. Not a bad thing, but i wanted a smokier taste and was let down.

I had the 357. Yes, it's VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY hot. It's crazy stupid painful hot. What's bad about that? Flavor. This stuff has the most rancid, awful, horrible, terrible, disgusting, putrid, gross, worst flavor i have EVER tasted in a food product or additive EVER! I would not wish this on my worst enemy, however...i need to get rid of it if i can. Otherwise it goes in the collection of "never to be opened again" sauces as the first entry.

So...anyone who has $5 plus shipping can get a deal on the 357.

Haven't had the jelly or the mustard, but I'm looking forward to it. The ingredients look good and both have good reps with the respective brand names.

I was going to try the jelly just now, but i wanted something more. So, i diced up two fresh orange habs i had ripening on the windowsill while i was away. Tossed em into some scrambled eggs and onto a piece of bread. Nice healthy snack. :):onfire:

My boss and my woman both say to me all the time, "do you have to put something hot on EVERYTHING you eat?" Sounds like you were looking for a vehicle for the habs on that one. I use quesadillas. Any leftover meat from a meal gets chopped up tossed into the frying pan with some chile oil fresh peppers (whatever I have on hand) some onions maybe, then put into a fresh tortilla with some Monterey Jack cheese and whatever sauce I fancy that night.

I hate these bottles you only open once to find you don't like the contents. We have a quite popular hab based sauce over here, so I got myself a bottle and don't like it at all. The heat is okay, but it leaves you behind with an ugly taste all over your tongue as if you've cleaned the toilet with it. Bah!

Got a new pack of Naga Snakebite sauces yesterday, these should keep me entertained for a little while! :)

I got 2 small bottles of Chilli Focus fertilizer. I figured i'd give it a whack and see if i see results. I have a plant that needs some love. In that same box was a free packet of Hungarian Hot Wax seeds which i will save for next year.

Breakin the law! Posting at work?? Whoa!

This week i've been selling my Batch#3 Hot Sauce at my office for fun and to see how well i do. So far out of 9 jars, i've already recouped all costs and am now collecting pure profit.

If i am NOT sold out by tomorrow, i will offer up the remains here and on newbeetle.org.

For lunch i'm having some curry rice noodles from one of them packages with the oil and seasonings in the packets. Not quite instant, but surely simple. I've added a spoonful of my "holy crap" version of Batch#3. It's gotta cool down a bit though. Too thermal hot to eat.

I'm hoping to find some new fruits growing on the patio when i get home. Wish me luck kids!

Today i went to the organic grocer by my job, Dean's Natural Food Market. I picked up lunch and a bottle of The Wizard's organic original hot stuff.

After reading a review on the hot sauce blog, i have to say i'm not impressed with the stuff. there's no substance to this sauce at all. it says it has cayenne extract?? where?? the heat is akin to black pepper. this is milder than mild. I hope nobody wastes their time on this crap. It might taste alright in a stir fry, but it's just not worth the purchase.

So tonight began like any other. I made dinner. Tonight was a nice tilapia filet (made about 5 little ones) with fresh herbs from my patio garden and i luckily had some fresh scotch bonnets which i diced and cooked with the filets. It was awesome. Hot, but not unbearable.

Than my buddy dropped by for some talk and a little beer. I decided to harvest my first homegrown bhut jolokia. Being the pussy i am, i just cut Greg and i off a 2" long x 1/8" wide sliver each. I took one look at the flesh and knew there was going to be a problem. The entire inside of the pod was PLASTERED with oozy, sticky capsaicin pools. Than the smell hit us. A wondeful smell, but good god is it potent. You can still smell it in the kitchen even though i put what was left away. Greg took a piece no bigger than a square on a piece of graph paper while i downed the whole slice i cut for myself. The flavor, as everyone says, is unique and very pleasant though it only lasts a moment before the alarms go off. First feeling i got was the throat burn. I bagan coughing a little more as time passed. Than i realize my vision blurred. Next my ears began dripping sweat. My eyes were tearing. My nose was leaking. I began to sneeze and even dry heaved a couple times. My nose was leaking fluid while my face was pouring with sweat. I wiped sweat off my neck, but i didnt wash my hands. Now my neck is burning. My eyelid was burning. I nearly vomited all the water, soy milk, frozen yogurt, and beer i used to try and calm things (only cold water and the yogurt helped btw). I realized vomiting up hot peppers wasn't a smart option so i kept it down and blindly txted a few people with my rubber gloved hands (i cut the pepper with my bare hands) and i sat on the potty getting rid of today's lunch. I wasn't about to touch my johnson with bhut jolokia on my hands (which later on i did after cleaning up some like a dummy).

All i can say is this. I'm glad i experienced it. I took a lengthwise slice of the pods i slaved over this being my first pepper summer. That said, i will not be eating any more bhut/naga varities by themselves again. Call me a pussy, that's fine. I love fire, but it stops being fun with fire turns into pain. Luckily these buggers have good flavor or i'd be pissed right now. And how gorgeous are them inside and out? Way prettier than a bhut IMO because of how unique they are. I pulled out about a dozen wrinkly seeds. i hope they're good seeds.

I think i will dry the remaining 8 pods and save the seeds for my own seed bank. I'm going to teach my girl's friend's husband how to grow in the spring. I'm saving a pod for him. We'll see if he's able to tolerate these bad boys. He's Mexican, so it's possible. Nice guy too, so i hope he gets a kick out it.

That's all for now. :)

The tilapia tasted awesome with the scotch bonnet and bhut together. The heat was rockin too. :D I also found that the more i ate of it, the more i added to it. I found i was craving more bhut as i ate. That's a good sign and a reason to overwinter that badboy.

i've hardly had any heat today. had a few habanero peanuts, but not many. i wish i had some wings all made up.

So today i'm planning in my mind what kind of chile pepper concentrates i'll make using AJs recipe. I'm looking at roughly 3 styles, or two perhaps. If i go two styles, it'll have to be one with just habs. i have tons of red and orange habs in the freezer. also going to make a fatalii. i'm likely to dry my bhuts, but i guess i could make a bhut concentrate and use some green bhuts as filler for the concentrate. i'll have to ponder that some more.

Todays lunch was some leftover wings with which i roasted some deseeded scotch bonnets here at work. i'm of course saving the seeds to add to my seed pack. so yeah, more SBs to share. they have some good heat to them too. a nice dizzying effect. bhut bonnet concentrate anyone??

(mental note: buy cheap food scale)
