not a real mechanic, but sure why not, any pullies could breakdown & seize IMO. bearings do give out.

It sounds like the water pump seized on you. Either that or the alternator, power steering.... But I'm betting water pump.

the water pump would give you notice of it going bad (leakage)

Not necessarily. I've had one just burst on me in nice springtime weather.

If you don't have electric fans (for your radiator) check your fan clutch. If you can't turn it with the engine off, it's bad.

agree with DD - water pumps can seize up without warning. Power steer, you'd know when you tried to turn it...alternator wont seize...just wear out & stop charging your battery.

I second the water pump idea.

Its one big serpentine belt as well so count on gettign another belt too -- did the temp spike before you stopped?

Do you know which pulley it was? It could be something as simple as an idler pulley or a belt tensioner. Take the belt off and check 'em all by hand....usually the idler or tensioner will be the first to go. Don't assume the worst until you know for sure.

The wife was driving it..She said though (because I asked her)she didnt notice the temp raise..Well im off in a few to get her Im cutting off the belt so I can put her on the trailer without the smokeshow and whining from a stuck belt and back in my driveway so Ill know tonight.

well thats good to hear, because simple to do but price sometimes sucks!

again like I said, ya never know when it comes to bearings/pullies. I've had alternators give off some funky noises but never seized (guess I was lucky) just like other bearings I've had give funky noises before.
as for water pump I havent experienced a seized pump yet (they just went out & leaked) not saying it doesnt happen just it hasnt happen to me yet.
