Well, I’ve just finished up my new instruments, aptly named “High on Speed” and “Distorted-o-board”, for my noise shows. Here’s me as the Mad Scientist getting ready to go to work.

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/5076/madscientistjp6.jpg

This is the High On Speed opened at the start of the project.
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/974/gutsrl0.jpg

I ended up crossing two areas of the circuit board on a children’s electronic book strip and connecting them to an on/off mini toggle switch. One switch causes the thing to cycle through all of it’s sound effects. The other switch causes the thing to play the sound at 4x faster than normal which really gives it more of a cartoony sound than usual. Here it is all built with an output.

http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/619/highonspeedrb8.jpg

Now here’s where I discovered a problem that I don’t understand why it’s doing what it’s doing. It’ll only play through the on board speak if there’s a input going into the output jack that I wired on. When I connect the output jack to a small, 9v battery operated speaker, it plays through that speaker. If I connect it to a larger amp (my Spider Line 6 60watt amp) it won’t play through that….any ideas?

My next toy was a children’s keyboard. I found one bend for it (in which I connected two resistors and then threw an on/off mini toggle switch onto). It makes the sound really distorted. On certain settings, once a key is pressed it’ll go on forever and with the distortion turned on, it really sounds drony.

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/8741/keyboardjq1.jpg

I need to paint this one (or parts of it) and put an output jack on it. I may still fiddle with it for a day or two and see if I can’t get any more bends out of it or I may save it until after my next gig on Wednesday…

I'm guessing ya need preamp for it if it'll feed to smal speaker.

I bet output is like .4 watt..ya ned more to match yer big gear or it's jusst background noise.

I got a Superscope A260 that has a zillion outputs for stuff liek that..gets confusing.

Try a direct box for the larger amp.

I'll have to search for that one and see what I get. I am looking to by a patch bay sort of dealiebob for all the things I'm going to bend.

Try a direct box for the larger amp.
Hmmm...I will also look into that.

Here's a mock up of how I wired it, "Please excuse the crudity of this model, I didn't have time to build it to scale or to paint it."

bro if you're experimenting with funky electronic effects, i'd love to hear your stuff. where can i do that? i'm hoping it's rock??

IGG---

If I'm understanding what it is you're trying to achieve... You need to go from the circuit board to the 1/4" jack. Then you can go direct to an amp or mixer board. Nix the inline speaker.

I've got someone working on transfering some stuff for me (previous shows) and I'm hoping that Ryan will be at my show on the 18th. He records all the bands and puts it up on the net for free for them.

Not anywhere near rock, it's noise. ;)

I had a feeling that that would be the problem/solution...

Ween...Are they the band that did a whole album in a garage while doing whippets and actually went thru a drive on one of their songs asking for guacamole??? I think I still have that CD somewhere. If it's the same band that I'm thinking about...got some real weird memories hooked up with their music.

And the song you are referring to is Pollo Asado and it's a guy placing an order for Mexican food and asking a ton of questions as to what each item is and keeps changing his order. They're an aquired taste of a band, but their newest stuff is light years better than the old stuff. Every album is a reinvention. I'll be seeing them next month in Brooklyn at McCarron Park.

thats pretty vague as to what "noise music" is, since I really dont know what really can be labeled as "noise music" but I dont think zappa would be one of'em.

these may be considered "noise music" by your standards then, but I just considered them "heavy alternative music"
checkout "dog fashion disco" & "polkadot cadaver" (DFD is no longer, PD is new - same singer & another band member)
heres 2 youtube links

if ya dont like heavy off the wall sadistic music dont bother looking at the links, BTW those are kinda mellow :lol:
& yes I like alot of other mello music too ex. doors,floyd,zep,etc... list goes on.

i guess it depends on your own take on it all. You have stuff like http://youtube.com/watch?v=dsQ_tUwuB1Y&feature=related whch is pretty noise sounding.

I dunno...i till want to hear these wacky found instruments.

And I want you all to hear them too! Maybe I could make a .wav file by inputing the things into the computer......hmmmm.......I'll explore this later....

I just uploaded samples of what the two circuit bent toys sound like. And, if you won't what I sound like, I speak on the samples as well.... Now you can put a voice to the face/screenname.

Interested Parties, PM me for the web address.

Thanks man! The "High on Speed" is kinda just for laughs. At the end of my gig I'm going to play the "bonkBonk Bonk".
