Words can not express how Pi**** off I am. I got a call last night about 9:30 from the lady that owns the storage lot where we keep our travel trailer...thieves/vandals broke into our travel trailer and literally trashed it...broke out the window of the door and then still pried the door open when they couldn't get it to open...police said they wore gloves...they broke into every travel trailer stored there (about 5)...we are supposed to go to east Texas next weekend for a 3 day music festival so that is now up in the air....after a quick look at the trailer last night, the only thing I saw they stole was a fine pair of binoculars and the radio out of the trailer and generally trashed it...it could have been a lot worse but still I feel violated...
you can see where the police dusted for prints on the door

I agree with everyone else. Get on with your life and they will be caught eventually. Don't worry about that.

I have cooled off now and am making arrangements to get the trailer fixed...I told the wife earlier that we were going to the festival (called Pickin' In the Pines ( www.t-roymiller.com/ )) come hell or high water...gigglin' here now....told the wife we were going if I have to use bungee cords to hold the door closed and cardboard over the window...
There are two pawn shops within 3 miles of where I kept the trailer....wonder if they are stupid enough to pawn the "loot" at either one of them...

Thats just terrible. I caught some thieving kids in my greenhouse at night last year and chased them away with a bat (while nearly naked). I don't know what they were after but the year before they got a few chainsaws and some other stuff I had left out. This year I'm planning on taking out some knee-caps if neccessary.

That sucks as a fellow camper I would hate for anything like that to happen! There is usually nothing in them that you think is worth stealing other than radios a small tv and binoculars.... good thing you didnt have a generator or anything stored in there. In your picture the door doesnt look to bad .. where did they pry? probably at the latch. and those windows arent to bad to change but its more about the violation and hassle.
Rather it a camper than a home though....

This poor inventor in Afghanistan invented an alarm that calls his cell phone if it is triggered, and plays his voice live from his cell over a loud speaker, to try and scare the thieves off.
If they persist after a minute or so, the alarm fires a shot through his window. A live round from a real gun! Sounds like a huge liability, but it would be somewhat satisfying.
It would be fairly fun to curse the bastards and scare the tiny poops out of them from hours away.
Sorry that happened!

Well something has to work other than a standard alarm. Car and house alarms go off all the time and most people ignore them. My neighbours car alarm is forever been set off by the local kids playing football near it and even he just ignores it. I remember years ago once in a supermarket car park I walked past a car (I think it was a volvo) and it started talking to me warning me to stand back away from the car in an E.T type voice. It scared the hell out of me and I hadn't even touched it.
You just reminded me of a really funny email a while back. It was about a prototype for a new car alarm. Since most people ignore car alarms they tested one that made loud sounds of people having sex. Everyone in the vicinity stopped and had a look to see where the sounds were coming from. Now that would do the job.

AJ, I also feel for you man! There is nothing more I hate than a thief. I would keep my eyes open around the local pawn shops, it has been my experience that most common criminals aren't really bright. In fact, knowing that most people don't store their RVs and trailers with anything of high value in them...I almost want to think it was some kids looking for drug money, JMO.
I fear for how things are going to be this summer with the gas prices going up to $4 + per gal. I fear that the economy here in the US is going to make the crime rates across this country go insane, especially when it gets really hot outside. People are still going to eat and will still need their fix. IMO, if it isn't bolted down, its liable to walk away...But, even being bolted down is no guarentee...
Good Luck AJ....Hope they catch the b*st*rds.
That just reminded me that my post may have been a bit lighthearted. AJ, I hope they catch whomever did this to you, and that your weekend goes off without a hitch.

Those work, but I thought the cell phone link so that you could actually talk to the intruder was ingenious.
I would probably say:
"Come on Buddy, Make my day. I'm just sitting here in my underware with my trusty sawed-off shotgun and a fifth of jim beam. I've got nothing to lose. I was just waiting for someone to break in."
The real gun rigged to fire through the door or window would be a step more than I would take, and I bet the voice coming from inside the trailer would send them running.

No problem JayT....lighthearted is better than pissed off...they will catch them sooner or later and I agree it was just punk kids looking for something to pawn to get money for whatever...
Just got back from taking the trailer to the shop and they said they would have it ready for me this coming Tuesday by close of business...
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa......camping at Pickin' in the Pines is going to be awesome...I have been going to these festivals for the past 7 or 8 years and let me tell you...there is some talent out there that can shame most of the nashville crowd but they are content to sit around campfires, drink a few beers, do a couple of shots of tequila, drink some texas tea...and play music 'till daylight....the pickin' circles go like this, play a song, original or cover then pass...the bigger circles you will have 20-25 pickers around and it takes a couple of hours for it to come your turn again...of course, anyone that wants to play with you can...great comaraderie..its one of the few times I get to play my originals besides the one that is on our new CD...

and yes IGG...that sinking feeling was accompanied by a model 686 S&W 357 Mag....
oh well, its over till the next time and there're probably will be a next time...

Just looked online at my bank statement and discovered that someone used my debit card to withdraw $300 dollars a few days ago. I called my bank and gave them heads up. I can pin down where I gave my card to someone at a restaurant and then the alleged perp scanned the card to another card reader. They were so stupid that they used the card first at the restaurant and then at the ATM. Bad juju for them. AJ I'm feelin' ya' bro.
Cheers, TB.

Dang TB..I feel for YOU...the crooks cost us about the same...
difference is you got a lead on who scammed you and it is probably someone over 18 and they will get what is coming to them...everyone is pretty sure it is kids under 18 that did the vandalism and thieving, so even if they were caught, they would be out of jail before you turned around...and if it is who I think it is, their parents could not afford to pay restitution...

All is well...I went to the music festival, had a great time and when I put the trailer back in storage yesterday, the owners were putting in motion detectors, cameras, lights that come on with motion, and an alarm system....
And, they have a lead on one of the kids that did it...seems he was bragging about what a "fun" time they had breaking into all the trailers on the lot....he was bragging at a bus stop with other kids in earshot...

AJ,
There's something about people breaking into a home that is about as low as one can go. A guy came in my house once while we were on vacation and stole a bunch of pop bottles and a few old coins. Not a lot of money, but we were pretty poor at the time. We couldn't "prove" he did it, but knew he did. I saw the guy at a supermarket a couple of weeks later and in front of a checkout clerk and lots of customers, announced in a loud voice: "Kenny, you thief, you ever set foot on my property again and I'll blow your brains out with my 20-gauge."
Believe it or not, no one's face that I saw registered shock, it was more like this is how things are handled in the country.
I'm glad you got your camper fixed and had a good time at the jamboree. Adams County, Ohio and Louisville, KY used to have a Bluegrass Festival. They were a lot of fun to attend.
We went to one in Louisville and some jerk cop had put parking tickets on a bunch of cars. I collected them, stuck them in an envelope with a note they were passed out wrongly and sent them back to the Police Department.

 gigglin here Mike...the weird thing about the trailer was that low life had touched everything in there...we sanitized the entire trailer on the way to the pines...speaking of...we decided to get all the instruments that people wanted to show and put them next to the stage...there is easily 100K in musical instruments...not bad for a small crowd of about 150 huh...
