My Excalibur food dehydrator came last week and I have been anxious to try it out. I decided that I would give it a test run on some onions. My favorite onion is the Vidalia Onion. So, I sliced the onion into 1/4 slices and then quartered the slices. Placed them in the dehydrator until dry (hard) and ground them up in my designated coffee grinder. WOOHOO!!! The best tasting onion powder I have ever had, way way better that the store bought variety.

I tried smoking onions then dehydrating, but it didn't work too well. Too much heat in the smoker I believe was my problem. Garlic worked much better.

It was awesome! I got the 9 tray unit and love it! It is VERY easy to clean because the heating element and fan are on the back of it which makes wiping it out a breeze. I give it ***** (five Stars)! Years ago I had a round unit, can't remember the name of it, and it was hard to use and required constant rotation of the trays. Not the Excalibur. Place whatever in there and pretty much forget about it.
