LOL... No I am not an expert gardener... I just choose the right crop to grow in Trinidad I guess... If I try to grow 'DATES'... I would be the worst Gardner!!!

Your pods appear to grow upwards and then fall over, is this the way they grow? and are they packed full of seeds like the ones I grow?

Pepper porn! Your plants are always so lush, must be so nice to grow year round in your climate. Also glad to have Trini as a member of THP, it's like having someone to talk to in pepper heaven.

I was almost afraid to open this link....

Interesting looking peppers. As a frequent traveler to the Caribbean, I get the impression that the climate there would be great for peppers of all types....all year round.

Are your peppers hotter during the dry season?

Yes they do become hotter during dry season... but not all peppers do well here... I tried getting some Banana peppers to grow no luck... also some of those Italian varieties...

I was browsing The Chilewoman's site, because, well, because it's a sickness, and I saw this:

BIQUINHO New in 2008
This was one of my favorites from 2007. Adorable small red chiles give rise to its other name: chupetino, or rubber nipple. Sucking on this chile will certainly make you pucker up. Heat: 7, Species: Chinense, Country: Brazil

She's also carrying Aleppo plants.

ALEPPO
This Syrian cayenne has been requested year after year and I finally saved
enough seed to offer it this season. Annuum.

plants looking great!

what about taste? how use these nipples fresh, dry or else?

what is dimensions of the plant?

thx

POTAWIE
03-26-2008, 07:48 AM
I've only eaten them fresh. The ones I grow have no heat but a nice fruity taste. They are full of seeds though:( and difficult to deseed since they are so tiny. With an early start these plant can get quite big and quite productive. Sorry I don't really know the dimensions.

Potawie, what's the advantage of doing this? does it put more energy into growth of stem/branches rather than fruit?

That's one of those raging debates, to deflower or not to deflower?

Personally, I pinch back the first few flower buds. Most of my plants are going in the ground, so I want them putting all the energy they can into vegetative and root growth for the first couple of weeks.

POTAWIE
03-26-2008, 08:46 AM
I like to cut back flowers to encourage growth(especially with C. annuum's) since the first flush of peppers is minimal anyways
Certain plants, like the chimayo I'm growing, flower and develop heavy pods so quickly that if you let the pods develop the whole tiny plant will fall over from all the weight and it would grow very slowly.

Last year in England we only had the one season, cold, damp and basically Sh*tty.

Last year? My english friends who have migrated to Australia tell me that's every year

Actually I lie, you guys had a heat wave (35 degrees) a few years ago and the old people started croaking. Meanwhile in Australia, Adelaide averaged 35 for an entire month, don't think anyone died.... What does that say about the health of the brits? ;)

rainbowberry
04-13-2008, 05:40 AM
 I know we can't take the heat. We moan all year about the cold and when the sun comes out we complain that it's too hot. We have a really sticky, humid heat here, not a nice dry one.

MiLK_MaN
04-13-2008, 06:58 AM
Dry heats are bad here in Melbourne, whenever there is a northerly that blows from the desert, it can hit upto 43 or 44 degrees, that is some seriously bad weather to contend with.
