While it would be great to hear the best and worst movies ever, that would create much debate and so start your own thread. My best and worst LATELY.
Best - "Shaun of the Dead":) ingenious.
Worst - "Howard's End":( Ahhhhh....(drools)no plot...no plot!

I know these are a little old but IMO they're really good, both "underworld" movies  2nd is better, the begining scene is  as is the rest of it.

I'm into movies that most people(at least here I would think) have never heard of
Best: WATERPOWER (1977) yes it's a old movie, but new to me. Jamie Gillis is fantastic in this flick, not for the faint of heart.
Worst: THE TEASER (1973): Something Wierd Video put this one out, staring a young RENE BOND, but never lives up to it's beginning.
If those are too obscure for you
Best: Hot Fuzz: not as good as Shaun Of The Dead, but still fantastic.
Worst: Reno 911: Miami............BLAH complete & utter garbage, zero laughs.

Nicholas Cage. He is a lesson in how not to do it. He started with:
Wild at Heart - awesome
Raising Arizona - another freaking classic
Com Air - .....uhhhhh what?
The Rock - .........
Face Off - ?????(who told him he was an action star???)
More action movies, etc., etc.
I like a good action movie, but he was GOOD in those first couple of roles! What happened?

Have you seen wild at heart? I am not saying that you are wrong, I am just saying that IF you had seen it (which you haven't since we are having this talk) you would see that, yes, he is pretty damn good. But if you had seen his earlier work, you would have thought that he was destined for better roles than stallone or schwarzennegger. Do yourself a favor and check out Wild at Heart.

I am with you! Lynch is great. But no one else could have played that role(Wild at heart, sorry I will get over it here momentarily) as well as Nicholas Cage did. It wasn't just that it was a david lynch movie, he was well cast. Anyhow....
You can't buy Lost Highways? Since I have been married and had 2 kids I don't buy too many movies anymore. (Except teletubbies, Harry Potter, etc.)

I actually look like the dude right now too. I was going to go as that but decided to go as "Resurected Jesus" (or Zombie Jesus as I like to call him...what? He died and come back, that's a zombie in my book ;) ). I'm having my costumer ex-roommate Melannie make me a custom costume for that.
As for ass-tastic movies right now....I just saw Transformer. What a steaming pile of bantha poodo! Horrible script, horrible directing (Bay's moviees are so formulaic. I shaw the same scenes in The Rock that I did in Transformers...ugh), lame lame joke....luckally, I didn't have to pay for it. We watched it at work.

Just saw AMERICAN GANGSTER and thought it wass quite good; one of the better crime/gangster films I've seen. Maybe not on a par with The Godfather I/II or Goodfellas but easily as good as Casino and probably better than The Departed or Scarface( Pacino).
Worth seeing for amazing period detail alone. The "true story" aspect makes it more interesting as well.

Better than The Departed, WOW, I chalked this one up as a rent but maybe I'll have to go to the theatre. I've read that it has a very Blaxploitation vibe going on(which intrigues me to no end) did you sense that?

Yeah, I really liked it Chris but there seems to be some divided opinion. Check the thread over at 'maniacs...your millage may vary.
I would say the film was too high budget/profile to have a real blaxploitation vibe but it does a great job of capturing the look and feel of early 70s Harlem/New York/New Jersey.

Saw a couple recent flicks via netflix:
KNOCKED UP- VERY funny comedy from some of the people who did 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN. Nice to see something so funny that's actually kind of sweet and not mean-spirited.
PERFUME: THE STORY OF A MURDERER- Strange movie about a poor slob born into poverty in 18th century France who has the most sensitive nose in the world. He sets out to make the ultimate perfume ...unfortunatly he hass to kill young women to do it. Some strange goings on in this. Good period detail. Allan Rickman and Dustin Hoffman in decent supprt roles. Not for everyone.

Fantastic Japanese horror about a madman who surgically alters human beings into monsters. Fantastic 10/10

SUPERBAD I just about laughed myself silly with this one. My wife was slightly offended at some of the humour but boy did I find this funny. Best highschool sex comedy since "Porkys".
RESCUE DAWN Werner Herzog has already told the story of Dieter Dengler in the documentary "Little Dieter Needs to Fly". Here we hava a narrative film of the story of Dengler who was shot down over Laos in 1965 and escaped the POW camp six months later. I think this had the largest budget Herzog has ever worked with and it shows in great production values. Christian Bale is excellent ( as usual) in the role of Dengler. Highly recommended.

Best films out at the moment are Tarantino's Death Proof and Planet Terror.
Time Bandits, Amadeus and Sexy Beast will always be up there for me!
The worst film I ever saw was The Straight Story by David Lynch! I nearly asked for my money back!
Saw 'Bee Movie' and I liked it a lot.
Also it reminded me of 'Goodfellas' (You need to see it, if you want it to make sense), also a wonderful movie (actually one of my favorite).

I saw that too, once you've seen Mr. bean on TV so many times it's just not funny anymore. Last week I saw The Golden Compass, not very impressed but it wasn't my choice to see it. I know a lot of people liked Happy Feet but I was disappointed. The Chronicles Of Narnia was good, and Peter Pan was alright. I fell asleep during Brother Bear years back so I can't comment on that really. Maybe I should go for films over a PG rating

The second half of The Golden Compass was the best bit for me, I found it a little slow going at first. Someone with a big hollywood budget should really get a big production going with some of King's movies. I for one am a huge King fan and know that with some actual money behind it, some of his work could make for excellent movies such as The Stand, or The Langoliers. Both were great books but adapted to the screen horribly. Only good movies made from King books are :The Shining, Storm Of The Century, and The Green Mile.

Watched:
Sunshine Fantastic Sci-Fi. Thick atmospheare & I rather liked the slasher type ending, most people didn't so I've read.
Shoot'Em Up What could have been a GREAT movie is just so so. I still enjoyed it, but the action felt alittle stilted to me, almost like he thought himself outdoing John Woo only to pull himself back so that would not happen.
Children Of Men Don't know why it took me this long to see this movie, what an outstanding flick.
& Lastly
Addio Ultimo Uomo A Mondo film from 1978. It had Italian audio only, no subs, but do you realy need subs or English when watching a Mondo film! One of the better ones I've seen, pretty frick'n gross at times.

I recently watched "I am Legend" and, well, really, STOP MAKING REMAKES.
This was Hollywood's 3rd attempt at this story. personally, apart from the ketchup blood, Charlton Heston's version, "the Omega Man" was pretty good. Will Smith is overrated.
As for the best I've seen recently, I dont know whether it counts, but the Family Guy movie from the start of season 6, where the rip off the Star Wars movie is prettty good.

Amen! And I know it has been mentioned, but also by those sickos:
Dead Alive - the singularly most god awfully kick ass movie of all time!!!!!
It is far superior to Bad Taste IMHO (but to each their own!)
It sets the bar for :
gore...(Our hero charges through a room of zombies armed with a running lawnmower),
irreverent ass kicking..(upon seeing the zombies coming to life in his church yard, a priest screams "I kick ass for the Lord!!" and rips off his cassock to reveal Kung FU style pajamas. He then proceeds to execute impressive hand to hand destruction)
mind blowingly sick endings....watch the damn movie, I don't want to give it away.

I guess this thread has become nothing more than a critic thread of movies they've seen recently.
well here goes,
doomsdays 2012 - DUMB!!! I only rented it because wordwiz was talking about the 2012 end of the word thing so I was curious. wordwiz dont worry it'll be just fine all that needs to be done is have a woman give birth on a table in a mayan temple - it'll reverse the affects from all that cosmic stuff ;)
gone baby gone - 2 thumbs up, it was a very good movie! I think it'd fall into the drama catagory it'll keeep you guessing.

For sick ass comedy I gotta go with "Meet The Feebles" as an all time favourite.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meet_the_Feebles
Also, by the same director is "Bad Taste" a blood splatter movie worth a mention. Some of Jackson's best.
Hallelujah! Bad Taste, Feebles, and Dead Alive are Peter Jackson's three greatest films. My friend and I once debated whether those movies would be better or worse if he had the type of budget he had for TLotR series for his first three movies. The answer we came up with was "no way".
I actually have a .wav file of "I kick ass for the Lord!" on my computer, I hear it every time I turn it off.

That is freaking awesome DTV!!!
CABIN FEVER
An awesome throwback to the 1970's "college kids in the woods" horror movies but with a nice twist, Thoroughly entertaining. Freaking hilarious to boot.

My favorite part is when he's changing over and they're playing 'bad moon rising' by Creedence!

I just watched The Girl Next Door. It's kinda like when you see an obese woman bend over -- you wish you hadn't. Towards the end: very, very wrong.

Really? i might just have to check it out then....especially if it makes you react like you're on a roller coaster. That could be amusing indeed.
i saw it not too long ago..was pretty good i thought. had the whole room to myself too! haha thanks to it being mexico, mo and 2:30ish in the afternoon on a weekday. i enjoyed it though..of course, i don't get motion sickness either..that may have helped. worth a watch and definitely seems to be one of those movies that are better to see on a huge screen with loud speakers.
Amen! And I know it has been mentioned, but also by those sickos:
Dead Alive - the singularly most god awfully kick ass movie of all time!!!!!
i loved that one! only watched it once...the lawnmower scene kicks ass. haha it was absurdly gory at that point. :D

CABIN FEVER

Evil dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness. I could live without the 1st one, but ED2 and A of D must be respected out of this trilogy. Especially ED2!!!!!

Hahah -- I own Dead Alive and the special edition of Bad Taste... So good...
But yeah, Evil Dead movies deserve awards. Of some sort.
I'm assuming there are Troma fans here...

ok I watched " southland tales " the other night, & all I can say is IGG sit back & eat a 1/8th of shrooms & watch this movie  it might make more sense in that state of mind than being sober
I got some things about it during the movie, but for most of the movie I was like WTF is going on & not in the normal kind of movie where you didnt know whats going on. I only fully understood what they (movie makers) where shooting for when I watched the special features, dont ruin the movie by watching that 1st!
star studded cast, just a weird movie.
Just watched Jumanji. less funny than I remembered.

Watched I AM LEGEND and, though I thought I would hate it, being a fan of the book, I thought it was pretty good. CGI sucked though.

Same here, couldn't even imagine Will Smith taking this role without any action. he did a wonderful job, actually.
Off to see 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street'. heard Johnny Depp did a good job.

I watched "sweeney todd : demon barber ..." today (well not fully watched it but reason is next)
all I can say is I'd rather have fresh bhut jolokias rubbed into my eyes than watch this movie!!!
I was ready to shut the movie off within the first couple minutes, but gave it the benefit of the doubt & hoped it got better, but I couldnt take it any longer so it was turned off 20 minutes into the movie.
I CANT stand musical movies! & this movie has singing in EVERY scene!!
they ruined a good movie by putting all the singing crap in the movie!
all this is my opinion.
WOW, ok.
Got some snacks ready, so haven't started watching it yet. I don't hate musicals, so let's give it a shot.

well good luck to you omri, I guess if you dont mind musical movies then have fun watching it. I on the other hand do not like them, in fact I really hate those types of movies.
but other than that the plot seemed like it'd be a good horror movie, but why add the musical scenes ?
Thanks! I got it all ready, so now I'm really off to see the movie. :D
That was a long one...
Well it can't be a horror movie because the hero is also the murderer, and the murdered one is simply a ahole, so most people won't relate with him.
If you really haven't seen all of it, it's a damn shame. ending is freakishly expected, but weird.
The technical aspect is amazing. from effects to scenery and clothing. the music sometimes overpower the actual words, but the musical part is actually not too bad.
It's nice seeing a man mourns with a song, and the fact they keep it nonstop is better than just the occasional and inappropriate singing.
chilehunter
04-07-2008, 06:49 PM
well I agree with the whole layout/effects/clothing/etc.... was nice for what I saw, this is why I tried to put up with the singing but just couldnt so off it went 20 mins into the movie.
horror movie I didnt know I just figured it was a slasher movie since it is about a barber that kills.
if you think pausing for about 1 minute to speak some words then go right back to singing, is not too much, well then you like musical movies.
me on the other hand if I want to watch a musical I'd watch a concert with music I like vs some opera type music.

I just watche3d The Fountin with my mom. I damn near balled my eyes out for 90% of the movie. Boy, that just struck a chord with me. What a beautiful film.

Great concept, not so much performance.
Just not interesting enough to make me want to watch all of it. I did watch all of it, just not willingly.

I haven't seen Sweeney, but Depp and Burton are Batting 1000 so far and I would pay to see a film about a turd if they made it.
No musicals CH? Check out "Cannibal, the musical" Campy but freakishly awesome! It is a Troma film.
P.S. I also started watching Omri's sig recently. I haven't quite finished it, but I hope to soon!;)
