I don't care what kind of racing you do. I'm just curious if there are any other racers out there. I looooove motorcycle roadracing. (That's me in the Avatar.:D) I've done alot of trackdays in the past and got published with the CRA, (Financial reasons set me back for getting my license this year......Next year I hope.:) Anyways, I was curious if there are any others that get the same rush from hitting the track? Whether it be dirt, ashpalt, water, the strip, whatever. I admit that I looove hot peppers, but I think it naturally comes from my natural desire to get any type of rush to the brain. Just testing the waters for other riders.:)

sadly, the only racing i've done is kart racing. not in a league though, just an indoor track. was very fun though. would like to get involved in the SCCA when i'm older and have money to play with as far as a car/parts/tires/etc.

i try to get out to the 12 hours of sebring every year..i think i've been the last 5 years in a row..maybe 4, i forget. have only been to some amateur bike racing down at homestead in the miami area.

Drag racing was my big game for years. I like almost all forms of motorsports, but it was Englishtown's quarter mile that grabbed me by the nads exactly 2 days after i got my driver's license. I campaigned a '78 Grand Prix bracket car for 8 or 9 years, then ran out of cash and sold it and really haven't been down the strip since(about 6 years now). I really need to get my ass back to the track.

I've been taking road course and autocross lessons lately. I seriously love taking a car to it's limit. I've been training in Spec Miatas, but eventually I'll be racing my Datsun 280zx.

all i have to say is, im surprised the guys that motorcycle race can ever sit on the bike with the size marbles they must have. watching it is fun, but i cant see myself actually driving the bike.

it does look really fun though. id love to have a bike, but i would probably die. because i would go as fast as i could all the time.. :(

I almost killed myself when I drove like a tard on the street before I started hitting the track. I guess doing a buck forty down a road, and trying to take a 35 mile an hour turn doing 80 isn't good:shocked::shocked:. If I could have used BOTH lanes I could have easily done it because that would have been about the same width as the track. I tucked the front end and bounced through some ladies yard. ODDLY I didn't die. I got Pissed through my helmet and had my little brother take me to the hospital. I just had a severely sprained ankle and a bruise on my back about the size of a dinner plate. I really hurt the next few weeks and NEVER rode on the street again. I did have a couple crashes on the track as well, but they were both lowsides. Nothing to major. Once in the rain and the other was due to a malfuntion with my shifter. (Loctite should be used on the bolts when you put a new one on lol!!)It really is fun though.

It's good to see some people in here that enjoy that stuff too. I'm sure the addiction is the same with all of the different motorsports. Like one guy said. Now I need to get my A@# back to the track:lol::lol::)

Yeah....I don't race on the streets anymore. I was killing a Camaro (in my Z) in some twisties near my house when I had to slow for traffic. He got pissed and got in under me and tapped my bumper...spun me up on the curb. No damage to the car, but there were a lot of people on the road that could've gotten hurt if I didn't continue up on the sidewalk....lucky for me no one was walking there.

The track is more of an adrenalin rush anyway!

Yeah, it's alot funner and safer on the track. I too think of what I could have done if I would have hit some kid flying through that yard. Or how someone would have felt if it was there car that killed me. Not worth it to me.

Those indoor kart tracks are fun though. I went to an indoor one near Chicago earlier this year. It was honestly a blast. They only did about 40 MPH, but indoors that was flying. I even got in trouble for stuffing someone.......He was in my way:lol::lol::twisted: I just rubbed him a little and chose an aggressive line to get around him. Oh well...lol!!!

In the early 90's I had a '71 Nova. Ran 13.29's all day long. Then I had a '98 Mustang GT that we built up and got ready to go drag racing but a week before we were to go to the track a PUNK a$$ kid blew a stop sign. He hit us (my wife, my daughter, and I) headon and totalled the stang. Eventually I'll be racing again. It's in my blood.

oh yea, indoor karting is a ton of fun. you can easily spin those things out if you aren't careful. hah and yea, they do get a bit pissy if you mess with the other drivers too much. went with one of my friends that had never been before and i was all over him..but he was messing around trying to cut me off every chance he got. they finally made him let me pass. they also gave us each a warning flag since HE hit ME.

my one and only track day was level one at (California) Superbike School at Eastern Creek in Sydney on my 'busa last December - what a rush! did my fastest ever, hit 270kmh down the straight (about 167mph) so parker394, I've done 160 or were you talking kms/hour? it's a road bike but I try to get the 200 kmh up every time I take it out, just to blow off the cobwebs. I'm hoping to do level two this December.

I'm going to Phillip Island in Melbourne in October to watch the Aussie MotoGP - GO CASEY STONER!!!

167....That's about my top speed going down the backstraight at Mid Ohio. That was....FUUUUUUUNNN!!!! Well, that's about what my speedo said at a quick glance anyway. You just have to be careful at the end of the straight though. It goes into a quick right and left at the end. Take that to fast and your in the weeds:shocked::lol:. So your going to watch the Moto-GP races in Melbourne....SAWEEET!!! I just found out a little while ago that Indianapolis in Indiana is hosting a Moto-GP race in Sept of 2008. As soon as I found out I put an application in for tickets. I hope I get them.

P.S- I've heard of the California Superbike school with Keith Code as well. I've never been to it though. So.....Who's your favorite Moto-GP racer? Mine is Rossi. I do however root for Hopkins though cause he's American and all. I also respect that he tries so hard on a less superior bike.:)

Very nice. Right now, we're pulling a hair over 11.5. When everything is said and done we should easily have over 500hp, and about 460 torque. To think this thing is my daily driver, and I haven't been late to work for as long as I can remember. I've got pics of the car on the Defcon website if you want to take a gander. btw rabbit, I reckon road racing is an awesome spectacle - I'm a big fan of the Isle Of Man, I'd love to go to that one day.

yeah rossi is an awesome rider, it's a shame his Yammie sucks the big one this season, looks like they didn't do enough work on the new engine. I've gotta say that I'd love the Aussies to win - Stoner, Vermuelen and co. Stoner's Duke has the edge this year, hopefully he'll win at Phillip Island in front of a big crowd of drunk Aussies - me included!

you should look into the Superbike School. there were a few guys on my course who were regular track day riders and racers and they all said they had improved after just doing level one. you get on track coaching as well as tutorial style sessions. you can get his books on cd to listen to in the cage if you want - I do, very thought provoking stuff. I highly recommend you give it a go, I guarantee it'll improve your riding!

I was at the local road course on Sunday and an S2000 was getting spanked pretty bad by an older Toyota MR2. I mean it wasn't even close. It could've been a driver skill level thing, but I was definitely surprised.

xgrafcorex
08-14-2007, 08:53 PM
ehh on a road course it could've easily been driver skill i'd say (without having seen them myself though). perhaps that old mr2 was modded or something? they aren't too shabby of a car, especially the turbo ones, but it would surprise me to see one walk away from an s2000. maybe the s2k was new and the guy was going easy? who knows..

the s2k is technically mid-engined as well because the the whole thing is behind the front wheels...that or 95% of it is. i've never driven one (i tried to test drive one once, but i guess they didn't like the idea of having some 18 year old kid drive a $30k sports car heh) but as far as i know, they handle pretty well.

Dang you guys are talking about cars now. What's funny is I've worked for Roush before the job I have now, and I'm REALLY into bikes, but I don't know two craps about the differences in Cars. I just know how to make a part from scratch with a print or idea. I feel like I'm listening to another language now...LOL!!
It sounds like the conversation that you guys are talking about can relate to roadracing motorcycles though. If it's a road course rider skill can really make up for other advantages......Ex....CORNERSPEED and squaring off for an early drive..WHILE being smooth.:D

There are times when it can oddly be a hindrance with a bike roadracing on a course though. Sometimes if you have to much horsepower your fighting wheelies, and overspinning your rear tire. That can hurt too. On the tracks with long straights it helps, but on tight tracks like Laguna Seca it can be too much. It all depends. Yes, the horsepower can help, but it needs to be used CORRECTLY and at the perfect time. Oh, I've never ridden Laguna Seca either. I do know the local track at grattan is REALLY tight besides the front straight though. It's more technical than power.

(it was a few years back) after that he had it up and running just fine besides a few electrical glitches here and there.

the 350z belonged to our old neighbor...though the guy with the datsun wound up getting a g35 coupe. got to drive it a few times..well got to drive both a few times...but i enjoyed each one. my car is fwd. :( still is pretty fun to drive though..it's faster than my friends old datsun that's for sure.

also, not sure i want to risk hitting any of those cones with my new car. every bit of dirt and every little scratch shows up on a black car, so i'm sure the cones could do a number to the lip or wherever.

i hadn't heard of the isle of man tt until a few months back, caught some article about it on bbc world news. sounds like a blast..should be crazy on the day they let everyone out there.

i don't know if you saw this rabbit because the thread kinda got buried, but i took a bunch of pics down at homestead, fl during a bike race. one of our clients where i used to work is a mechanic for one of the teams. sometimes he races, but he wasn't that day. he works for a shop called prieto racing.

Thanks man, It's hard to believe this has been my daily driver for the last 9 years! I Highly recommend this car to anyone seeking the thrills of killing V8's and looking sharp while doing so. With it's mid engine and all aluminum design it handles like a dream!

That's cool man, I skate with my girlfriend just about every day. I'm really more into skating then Hot sauce, and I know I 'm going to catch some heat for this next photo but MTV built a 20' x 25' x 7' in my backyard just a little over a year ago. Like having a wave just out the back door (for those who understand vertical skating)....lol

cool pic willard. what is the PCA? i've been reading a little about autocross and have been wanting to get involved and have some legal racing fun. the only thing is, i don't know how i feel about using my only car for the purpose. don't need any mechanical issues, and also not too sure how much i'd like the possibility of running over a cone (or cones) with my basically brand new car.

PCA=Porsche Club of America. There are others who run track events, Trackmasters and etc where you enter other cars than Porsches.

PCA runs both autocross events and track (road-race) events. Autocross is a good place to hone track-driving skills and to learn the limits of your car at low speeds.

sounds like a lot of fun. i think i'll probably wait and have a separate car for autox. that way if something does happen, i can still get to work or the store.

i bear crappy news. rally driver colin mcrae died along with his 5 year old son and a friend in a helicopter accident.

http://timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/more_sport/article2461339.ece

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwb-RNbdx5U (great song in that video)

it's kinda ironic that doing something as dangerous as rally racing..you'd die in a helicopter. RIP

Welcome back mate. I watched the Q session on Saturday...didn't see you in the crowd, but they didn't show the beer tent

Was dragged out kicking & screaming on a fishing trip Sunday, so missed the race.

How'd my local lad Chris Vermeulen wind up?

I'm not sure on his final placing but he was around 8th or 9th for most of the race. that's pretty good considering he was 16th after qualifying on Saturday. he and Anthony West had a great tussle! all three Aussies finished top ten (I think).

it was bloody cold and windy on Saturday but Sunday was good weather. I drove home in one hit on Monday - 1024kms in just over 11 hours - slept very soundly last night. over 2400kays for the whole trip.

I remember when I first tried it at the local Gardening Expo. My mate tasted a big dollop & started threatening the hippies at the soy milk stand because they were only handing out little sample cups & wouldn't sell him a whole carton from the fridge behind the counter.
He honestly thought he was going to die.
