I am a burger freak as well as a foodie in general. I grew up on Whataburger(used to be able to get whole jalapeno's on the side) but haven't had one in years. Over at Hamburger Today they have alot of devotee's of In-N-Out Burger. I had a trip to Las Vegas and my gal and I stopped in one of these joints just off strip. Place was packed and lined up out the door. While I found the cheeseburger way better than the other joints like BK, McD's, Wendy's etc. I wasn't that knocked out and don't understand all the hoolah balooh. Same same for the Phatburger joint down the way. What's your fav and why?
I know imaguitargod eats heaps of burgers so has to have an opinion. What say you?
BTW..my fav burger blogger TexasBurgerGuy has been MIA as of late. Anyone heard about him and what's up? Thanks.

around my area we have a place called lindburgers. its not the best burger in the world, but they certianly have a lot of variety! i think they have about 40 different types of burgers to choose from! i've never seen so many options.
as far as fast food type places go..my favorite is a place called andy's. they don't have them down here that i know of..but i worked at two when i lived in north carolina. i guess part of the reason i liked their burgers a lot was that i made my own to my specification. :D extra beef, extra bacon, cheese, jalapenos, onions, garlic salt and pepper, on a toasted bun. mmmmmmm :drooling:

I'm gonna have to to a three-way-tie....
1.)Duffy's tavern on Anna Maria Island
2.)Skinny's about a mile away from Duffy's(and they have dollar mugs of bud draught!)
3.) The Biff Burger in St. Petersburg(oldest burger joint on the west coast of florida....built in the mid 50's and hasn't changed much since!)
Anybody comes to this side of Florida while i'm still here and i'll take ya out these places.

Thanks for the tip about the Texas Burger Guy blog. I love food blogs!
I've been looking for the best burger in South Austin and haven't found it yet. I tried Red Robin ( a chain) recently and was disappointed to find out that their patties are 6 oz. max. I ordered the double one and it was pretty good but not great. It was a fun place to eat though..they have cocktails and stuff...and real good onion rings.
If you're coming to Austin soon there's a bar on 6th Street, Casino El Camino, that used to make the best burger in town...I say used to because I haven't been there in some time..they still might. It's a good bar to check out regardless.
The best fast food chain I've found is Culvers. They actually make a surprisingly tasty burger for a fast food place..really good. My only "beef" is the one near me seems to employ only teenie boppers and they are 2 for 1 at screwing up my order. After getting home with what was supposed to be a fully dressed deluxe jumbo burger to find only a slab of meat and two pieces of bread I almost gave up on them...but I've been back; I just carefully check my order before leaving the premises. They have good onion rings too and great frozen custard treats.
Has anyone tried Fudruckers lately? Someone suggested them saying they make ( big) burgers to order.

We recently got "5 guys burgers and fries" here in Charlotte and what a terrfic disappointment they were. I figure if your only decor is headlines about how great your food is, it better be out of this world. Though you are allowed to build your own, nothing stood out at all, Bummed.
Have had a real big and tasty burger at Ruby Tuesday's. It's the "monster burger" or something like that. BIG! Enjoyed it.

Hey chuk, not familiar with any Austin burger places, would like to try that one in Houston that is like located under a highway overpass, has all types like buffalo etc....suppose to be really good, been on food network!
Hey DD will have to try snuffers, use to eat at the Feedbag in Dallas was awesome, but not sure if still around.
As far as burger chains hard to beat a jalapeno double cheese from whataburger just something I have always grown up with.

We have a fairly new 5 Guys here in Jacksonville, and I too was a little disappointed in the food. The fries were heavy and soggy. I expected a great burger with all the critic's reviews that they had quoted. The burger was only average - a step above McD's or BK, but a couple steps above in price.
I do like In-N-Out burgers, but I only have a chance to eat them when I'm in CA. They have a great taste and plenty of juice and grease. I think a burger needs some grease for flavor, I hate a dry burger.

AMEN to grease. Just hate it when someplace advertises using lower fat meat for their burgers. For me it just reads "dry"! I use 80/20 for burgers at home and add parmesian cheese to the meat to fll in for the juices it loses while cooking. Always juicy!!!

We have McDonalds and Boiga king (correct Brooklyn pronunciation, I'm informed) over here, and that's about it.
Except TGI Fridays and pubs/ restaurants that do them, but that's not a chain as such.

I usually like to cook my own, that way I can marinate it in anything I want. But as far as burger joints go, here's my list.
-Fuddruckers (http://www.fuddruckers.com/)-after all, they do toat their burgers are the world's greatest.
-Gordon Biersch (http://www.gordonbiersch.com/)-their burger quality varies greatly, but usually it's awesome. Thick, juicy patties on nicely risen buns, with mayo to die for. Plus you can get pepper jack cheese instead of American.
Fast Food Places:
-McDonalds- Yes yes, I know their fast food usually is crap, but I just went to New Mexico wher I purchased a Green Chili Double Cheese Burger
- Carl's Jr- They have a five dollar burger that's decent.
-Rallies- They must put some sort of crack in their burgers because I was sooo addicted to them about 8 years ago.

IGG...being a CA guy and all, I would have thought you would be a big In-N-Out fan. (No not THAT in and out) When I was up in Alaska, there was a Carls Jr. that was okay. So many of the big joints as mentioned, lack the grease factor and tend to be bland and dry. Most of the good burgers round here close to Seattle are the mom and pop joints. I'll be moving in the next 3 weeks to Las Vegas and I'll be a hop and a skip from a joint called the Bobcat Bite which from what I have read is the shizet for green chili burgers. I can't wait. My pepper plants should do better down there too!! Ahhhh..sigh..pequins.

Up here Seattle way we have Dicks Drive In, Red Mill and the original Red Robin. Red Mill I haven't had yet. Dick's has great onion rings and shakes, better burger than the other big chains. Red Robin gets "the finger" as I have never had a meal worth the dough and the service was horrible. I only have gone to RR because my gal likes them.

Up in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, uniquely yummy burgers at "The Burger Inn" on Mcleod Trail.
They have your regular thick beef sirloin burgers, really fresh buns, lettuce, pickles, peppers, whatever you want. They are made to order. Hellagood fries too.
Cool thing is they have bison, ostrich, turkey, and at certain times of the year I think they have rabbit and even alligator.
The gator burgers are really expensive, but up here, it's as close as you get to a real gator, unless you go to the zoo.
They don't let you eat the ones at the zoo, even if you attempt to wrestle one yourself :-(

If I had to pick a local chain burger, it would be 5 Guys. At least they offer Jalapenos and Cajun fries...Buffalo Wild Wings has a decent Black-n-Bleu burger, and you can get a BEER with it!
Krystal burgers are my classic favorite, spent tons of $$ there back in my days of delusion scarfing down munchies! Unfortunately not one to be found in my area now. Of course it might tempt me to re-live my youth. Heh heh!
A small beachside joint that has great burgers is a place called "John's Drive-in" located on the beach road in Kitty Hawk NC. It's a small little roadside walk-up place that's only open during the summer months. Everything they serve is Great!!!

Bison and Gator are really tasty. There is a bison farm 20 minutes from my house, so its a little cheaper here than it was in western PA. The cajun restaurant has gator year round and its not too expensive. Then again I'm a lot closer to Florida than Western Canada is :)

On the way down here to LV I stopped at Carl Jrs. for a burger. I know I know its a chain but the dealio is that thier bacon cheese burger ain't bad. Onion rings, bbq sauce, cheese, bacon on a sesame seed bun. I sacrificed the soggy bacon to my aussie pup. She gave the bacon a thumbs up. The onion ring bbq cheeseburger combo actually worked as it made one forget for a moment...but just a moment that there was a semi dry mystery meat pattie in there some where. Enough of the chains. I am now on a quest for the best mom and pop burger, which even a soso one is usually better than the chains....but then I am still a loser and a sucker because I still like Whataburger. Yeah, jalapeños on top ( fresh of course!) with more cheese melted over them. In the burger I used cheddar and some white cheese I had on hand...I think it was Havarti. I know the recipe said to use American, but I couldn't bring myself to buy that stuff!
These burgers were real heart-bursters. My wife and our friend could only eat half. I managed to eat mine but after that 2+ inch thick monster I needed a nap!
I cooked these on the Weber. I used an egg and a little bit of breadcrumbs in the burger as a binder to make sure they didn't come apart. One of them leaked a little cheese but overall....spectacular results!

Well, I'm not all that big on fast food joints, but today....one actually surprised me.
Carl's Jr. Now, as far as fast food goes, it's a pretty good joint. You're more likely to catch me there instead of Dirty Ron's or Burger King.
Anyway-- I ordered the Jalapeño burger and expected a few pickled peppers on thier regular burger. What I got was a complete surprise. Actual fresh, sliced jalapeño peppers, and they didn't skimp. Pepper Jack cheese, and a spicy chipoltle mayo rounded out the burger. I actually had a nice little burn going for awhile.
So, if you like Carl's Jr.or are lucky enough to have one near you, I recommend this.

I have been a complete failure in keeping this thread going but now have a new report. My gal came home with chix strips from 3 Angry Wives Pub the other night and I was reminded that I have been remiss in visiting that establishment. The joint has killer sliders! 4 for 7 bucks and they rock. The joint also has wings, rings and the usual apps but they really put a lot of love in the food and that is reflected in the quality. I rate them as one of my favorite joints to eat at here in Las Vegas. Cheers.

the dollar beers were nice too!
had a good time meeting up with you, even though tampa gave up the game at the end. if you're up in the area, hit me up and we can get some food..preferably something spicy this time. :hell:

LOL sorry about that. I go there so much i'm used to hitting up an ATM before i get there. I forgot to warn ya. It was great to meet you also, bro. Maybe one day we can meet up near your house, maybe say Dunedin or something? There's supposed to be a rockin'Carribean/jerk place right on the Pinellas trail there.
I'm more of a fried chicken kinda guy, but I can enjoy a good burger.
There's this place just a couple meters from here, and it's pretty good.
You pick the burgers by the weight, which is awesome.
Although the one below does look tasty. :drooling:

For those of you coming here for the Fiery Foods Show in March, there's an old diner here called The Owl. The inside hasn't changed since it was built and has hand formed burgers. One of their specials is the Green Chile Cheeseburger. Now, it's not huge like those above, but it's good. Damn good. You can even get an ice cold beer to go along with it.
I'll be more than happy to go with anyone attending the show, or when you might be swinging by this neck of the woods....errr..desert.

The Biff is the closest to him. Here's the addy:3939 49th Street N. St Petersburg, FL.(http://www.biffburgers.com/)
Honestly, he's probably been there before....i don't think i've met anybody who's been here for more than a year and hasn't at least heard about it.
The other two are a bit further south of him(closer to me). Duffy's addy is:5808 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach, Anna Maria Island, FL (http://www.duffystavernami.com/)
and Skinny's addy is:3901 Gulf Drive

yea yea I know its not a TRUE hamburger but it was still tasty. as for the bun deal, well is a bun not bread ? & sandwich bread still bread ? (which I dont like white bread prefer good wheat bread but it was there so I used it) so its all good IMO & with sandwich bread you can fill'er up with stuff & be able to hold them all in on w/o all the stuff falling off the sides of the burger. but to each their own.
if I had all my prefered ingredients then the burger/sandwich would be different. most of my meals are thrown together at the last moment. plus MN is huge on turkey production so turkey is plentyful around here, cheap, & tasty.

My favorite local place to have a burger is at The Star Cafe down in the Stockyards. I'm also a big fan of the Athens Burger at Love & War In Texas. One of the best burgers I've ever had was at Ed's Easy Diner in London down in Soho, I'd been in London for a week and was craving a burger so I hit up Ed's and had an awesome bacon cheeseburger.
There used to be a place in Bells, Tx that my family had been going to since the early 50s but it looks like it closed up shop 7 years ago.
If you ever find yourself out east Texas way near Lake Tawakoni you should hit up Oakley's Burgers in Quinlan. I haven't been there in going on 13 years but they had amazing burgers back in the day

AMEN to grease. Just hate it when someplace advertises using lower fat meat for their burgers. For me it just reads "dry"! I use 80/20 for burgers at home and add parmesian cheese to the meat to fll in for the juices it loses while cooking. Always juicy!!!
My venison burgers that I cook on the grill at home are my favorite and they are VERY lean. The trick is to cook them medium. When I mix up the meat I put some pepper flakes in them, mixed with worsheshire sauce, and onions. Then I cook it over a charcoal grill really slow.
Now, I know this sounds kind of wierd, but my favorite burgers that are fast food are white castles.

If it's not meat..it's not a burger...it's a sandwich. Turkey is questionable...and I admit I am biased..I'm not a turkey fan. Traditionally burgers are beef. Sprouts and whale blubber on a bun is not a burger. Cheese is always an option...no matter the kind.
Cheers, TB.

I tend to like to make my own..that way I get exactly what I want, including my naga BBQ sauce and fresh Jalapenos. ;)
Burger Joints locally, you can't beat Dick's and Zip's for good-old-fashioned heart attack fodder.

I live right next to the one in the picture... Can't beat two Papa Joe's for under $3 (meat, cheese, ham, their own tartar sauce, lettuce, and a pickle.) The Belly Buster and Big Zipper are fun if you want a monster.
The Double Whammy at Dick's is a legend ..and under $2 for 1 lb. of brain-numbing beef and cheese. Still about a buck for the Whammy which is more than most people eat..3meat/2cheese..
Oh, and they make their own fries, just don't let them get cold. ;)

That's interesting Philipperv, thanks. I didn't realise that by law in England it only has to contain 52% lean meat. I'd prefer a burger with 52% lean meat and the rest cereal then a 100% ham/beef burger with chewy bits in it.

Made up my own new burger recipe last nite. Took some decent burger I just got fresh and didn't have any cheese except cream cheese so I folded some slices of that into the meat along with diced onion and garlic and cooked it putting some oyster sauce, chili powder, pepper and oregano on top. I also had some mashed potato left and put that on top too with some jalapeño slices (canned stuff :(). Was a real treat! Sorry no pics.

My newest favorite and best burger joint in NJ is the only one outside of NYC. Jackson Hole in Englewood, NJ. The burger was bigger than any burger i've ever had anywhere and made of pure beef. I got the soul burger last time. A cheeseburger with bacon and ham. Niceness!

Hey dude, there is a hamburger shop up the road from the hippyseedco, and they have a Extreme Burger with a Hab Sauce.
Had one yesterday with double sauce and is was simply sublime.
Then, to finish off, we had a bowl of ice cream, topped with
a Plum Chili Sauce. That was awesome.
It burnt the back of throat first, then once finished the ice cream,
the heat moved to the front of the mouth. Will try next time on Waffles too, with Blueberries. :-)

I don't know if they are everywhere, but I love Winking Lizard's burgers. They are a bar/pub in NE Ohio and also have some fantastic wings, hot ones too. In fact they have wings that you must sign a waver before ordering, I can't remember the name of them though.

Best burger I have ever had was at The Boathouse in Storm Lake, Iowa. I recommend the Island Volcano. Huge beef patty smothered with BBQ and topped with swiss and pickeled chiles. Freakin incredible!

I know that one without even looking up the name. It is Quaker Steak and Lube that now has many new locations since that last time I was home. Used to go to the original one in Sharon, PA while growing up.
