View Full Version : Marketing Is More Than Labeling.

I have preached before that marketing is a three dimensional aspect of succesfully promoting a new sauce. A clever name and a cute label are just the start. The entire professional image of a company has to first be creatively integrated then nurtured FOREVER!

ROFLMAO!
"The guy in the picture looks exactly what you’d imagine a hot sauce inventor to look like. Cowboy hat? Check. Sleeve-less vest? Check. Collared undershirt? Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! I love it."

Ha, yes, - but the marketing plan is to push that exact concept, so it is working. As I said, you have to have a plan and a nurtured image that integrates into the plan seamlessly. Since that is who I am it is an obvious approach. - E.Z. :)

And it would seem to work wonderfully. You've poured yourself into your product and it shows tremendously. Now that's some good marketing. Or, rather would it be better referred to as "branding", such as how Nike "brands" not just products, but instead a whole lifestyle?

Which is exactly why I don the goggles, gasmask, and industrial gloves. It IS me when I harvest our extracts. LOL!

You've got it exactly Sickmont. In a nutshell, I basically made a living for over 30 years teaching (or trying to teach) clients that exact point and how to do it. As I use to put it, there are many persons that know how to sell, but a person who really comprehends why people buy will attain a higher degree of success! - E.Z.

I agree with Earl's "Total Marketing Concept" if I can call it that, even from a law firm point of view: we have a nice new logo, we're good at what we do, but we really fail sometimes to put ourselves forward in a "modern" way with cool brochures and the like. Often, our competitors succeed on all three fronts, because they realise that you need DECENT marketing (often dedicated people in house if not outside help) as well as know how and experience.
Being good at your job, sadly, ain't always enough nowadays.
Which is one reason I'm looking to move.

Yeah, I agree. However some of my favorite sauces are the ones that are harder to find believe it or not.. It's just that I am always willing to try new things that I find them..
ex. Mild to Wild Pepper makes some great products and really isn't that popular at all

How about a low tech approach? I always start with a blue grid pad, straight edge & French curve, and a kiddy's box of colored pencils. Then trust your instincts. Finally take your final roughs to a pro like Ryan - "Angry Pepper" - who can help smooth them out and maybe add new ideas. - E.Z.

Thanks for the endorsement. I am getting into it alot and I was just thinking it would be cool if I wanted to have my own label even if I don't commercialize my sauce.
It gives me ideas though of trying to make different sauces. I can get Yucatan orange habs, year round here as well as some other chilis.
Who knows I might be able to come up with something good. I am very creative person!!

Pretty embarassing! I boast about my 30+ years of owning a "MARKETING" firm and then I can't even spell it? - E.Z.

My trick is to purposely mispell words. This way peeps can't determine if it was a mistake or just me playin' around! ;)
