Ingredients: Pure white vinegar, filtered water, diced tomatoes in juice, English-Style Worchester sauce (no anchovies), secret blend of 12 natural herbs & spices, Oregon Clover honey, concentrated lemon juice, x-hot horseradish, salt, natural hickory smoke, precooked food starch, hot chili extract, natural Xanthan (as stabilizer).

First Impression
First impression is a bit confusing. What is this sauce? A BBQ sauce? A hot sauce? It says it has many uses, which I'm sure it does, but to me, this is a BBQ sauce, and a darn good one.

Label and Packaging
A huge 13.4 ounce bottle with a picture of E.Z. and the story of his sauce. Great packaging.

Appearance
I'm really excited when I find a BBQ sauce that has all natural ingredients, and no high-fructose corn syrup, or regular corn syrup. If you looked at the sauce on a spoon you wouldn't know it wasn't there. It has a great sheen, and a perfect consistency for BBQ.

Taste
Taste's like a mean no-joke BBQ sauce. Tangy, bold, and spicy. Your lips will tingle after about a minute. Very spicy, not extreme, but this isn't a hot sauce condiment, it's a cooking sauce. You can taste where the heat is coming from. For one... lots of black pepper! The black pepper tastes freshly cracked. You can also taste the horseradish. Very nice to taste a hot sauce where the black pepper and horseradish are providing a lot of the heat. There's also "hot chili extract" listed. That's what provides the lip-tingling. Smoke is listed, but it isn't a smoky sauce. The best adjective... bold!

Applications
BBQ and Bloody Marys... definitely! It also says this can be used as a condiment (and lists tacos), but to me, this is a cooking sauce. It's very potent, almost like a concentrate (with all the black pepper and spices), perfect for brushing on your BBQ'ed meats, or adding to a Bloody Mary, but a little to potent to put on top of a taco or used as a condiment in another way. I tried it on top of some pulled pork and ribs, but it was take-out (hey, who says you can't get good BBQ in NYC... check the pictures!), so I didn't get to use it as a cooking sauce. The flavor was great, but I knew it would have tasted better if I added it during the cooking process.

Overall
Excellent BBQ sauce with a great kick! There's only a few BBQ sauces I like. I look for all natural ingredients and a good consistency and sheen that are not a result of corn syrup. The next thing I look for is heat. E.Z. Earl has done it! Hot sauce lovers will welcome the heat and bold flavor, and BBQ lovers will throw their Kraft Thick'n Spicy in the trash.

Sorry for the delay in acknowledging the great review. I am working the Seattle Coffee Fest this weekend with our Stirling Gourmet Syrups (coffee flavorings). I feel like I have been drug through a knothole by day's end. Strangely, the "java-heads" (as mentioned in the "Saga of E.Z. Earl" on my bottle label) are still avid "chili-heads" 15 years later. I was amazed  how many bottles of Hot Stuff (...er..Sauce) we sold at a show where it isn't being featured! :) As I always say, the most important ingredient in a foodstuff is QUALITY. It always sells!

Anyway, thanks for the kind words. I believe the best still lies ahead when you get a chance to actually cook with the sauce.

I wanted to update this review after cooking with the sauce. I won't be able to fire up the grill for awhile, so indoor cooking will have to suffice. Just wanted to see how this sauce performed as a cooking sauce. I used a cast iron grill to cook a boneless, skinless chicken breast. Boring, I know... but I knew E.Z.'s sauce would take care of that. It was delicious! All of the same flavors are present, but they all come together as one great flavor. It binds to the chicken very well, as you can see in the finished product. Either this sauce gets hotter as you cook it, or I didn't have enough of it last time, but my lips are still tingling! Can't wait for summer!

High-fructose corn syrup is nasty. Gives you the calories, but it doesn't tell your body to stop being hungry.

If you go to a Barnes and Noble, pick up a copy of "The Abs Diet", its a orange paper-back. If you ever want to know why people are getting fat, read up on HFCS and trans-fat. It's like a nutritional scared straight program.

:) Knew you would find the cooked sauce even more flavorful and hotter. That was a major R&D objective for me. Now it gets even better. Wait until you can BBQ with it! Thanks! - E.Z.

it's definitely good stuff. like has been mentioned i would consider it to be more of a bbq sauce than a straight hot sauce, but it's dome of the best non-homemade bbq i've tasted (and it does have a great heat level).

Just got my package today. Much obliged Earl! I was feeling left out of the party!

I opened it up and licked it off the seal paperr thingy. Smokey....a little sweet...and warm. Mmmm...warm. A nice comfortable building heat that is making me happy all over.

Will the extract screw with my stomach? I'll know in about 30 minutes....

I sure hope not. This stuff is good. :) I'm looking forward to enjoying this over time.

The sauce is an original, but may resemble Hatari. My base sauce is a spicy smokey-sweet cooking sauce that according to my Grandma came across the Oregon Trail from St. Louis in the 1850's with her Great Grandma. She had been told it was originally a N'Leans sauce. In 1991 I made it hot and super hot then introduced it as a test sample at the N.W. Restaurant Show in Portland. I then shelved marketing it until the 2006 N.W. Restaurant Show where it won the Gold Medal for "BEST OF SHOW".

HFCS is nasty! What pisses me off the is that going into a food store, almost EVERYTHING has HFCS! NOBODY reads labels these days! What pisses me off even more is the DISTRIBUTION crap like that gets! lol

Well, I'm working on trying to change that of course, as are many of us 'small guys' in the food industry. -Lars-

i just received my free sample of blazin-hot sauce this afternoon. i couldn't wait to try it, so i put a bit on my finger to try before i was going to have any food. the initial taste got me to really look forward to the next meal i was going to have. i had some of the last of my chicken and was dipping pieces of it into the sauce. it was great! i was a tad worried when i read the above review say a lot of the heat came from the horseradish...i'm not a fan of horseradish at all. but i was pleasantly surprised to find that i didn't really taste the flavor of horseradish that i don't like..but i could definitely taste the heat! great flavor and solid heat..i'll be ordering a couple bottles shortly.

ez - is the smokin-hot sauce the exact same flavor as the blazin just with less heat? or does it have a bit of a smoky flavor that the blazin doesn't? and thanks for mailing me the sample. :)

edit..actually i just read above that you said they had the "same flavor."

Here's my 2cents worth.

EZ Earl's Smokin-Hot and Blazin-Hot Stuff. We finally opened the 2 bottles he sent us.
The wife basted 2 pork loins for cooking. One with Smokin-Hot Stuff, the other with Blazin-Hot Stuff. ( The second one was for me!)
As a baste, it worked great. The meat was tender and moist. There was a bit of heat with each sauce, but mostly flavor. I can only describe it as 'bold'. I liked it as did the wife.
Once I was finished tasting, I poured the Smokin-Hot Stuff on a section of meat and dug in. It was spicy and I was getting a bit of heat too. VERY Bold and Spicy that way.
Next, I poured Blazin-Hot Stuff on another section of loin. WOW. Bold, Spicy and HOT. I had to pause eating a few times to cool off! A great way to teach a person to eat some veggies between bites of meat!
I honestly cannot say what the flavor was other than 'Tangy'. The wife definitely liked the way it kept the meat moist. She liked the tang too. Of course, she didn't pour it on after it finished cooking either. A definite 'Must Have' for the cook who wants variety and good taste.
( Our parrot, Bubba, also gave it a thumbs up!

To Tinner, Mrs. Tinerr & Bubba Tinner: Many thanks for the great review. I like the in-depth way you went about it. It has been almost a year now and the new sauces are still keeping me hopping like spit on a hot skillet!! :) - E.Z.

Well, I heated some Campbell's Jamblaya Soup and poured some Blazing Stuff in there. Added great flavor, I thought, and plenty of heat. As with any 'hot' sauce, hot foods increase the heat. :)
Anyway, he does have a winner here with a great 'multi-purpose' sauce. I'll be trying it on and in other things when I can.:)

Right.

I got a phone call from my wife today to say that the sauce had FINALLY arrived. For those who don't know, I had some sent to my brother's Girlfriend's family who live in North Carolina. That was way back in, like, January or something. Ages ago.

So, now it's arrived: the smoking and the blazing. After a day sat at work (with, incidentally, a massive hangover) I've finally got home to try them.

Gotta say, totally worth every minute of the wait :)

First word that came to mind: Definately tangy, which is one word THP used in his review, I noted. To my taste buds, the tangyness was tomato based. Fairly sure that was what I could taste.

The black pepper certainly comes acorss with the blazing, indeed. I've been tasting both of them the best way: dipping my finger in the bottle as we're cooking something else tonight. After a few dabs of blazing, my forehead is sweating gently, and I'm doing that breathing thing where you kind of hiss your breath in over your tongue to cool it.

I can forsee using both as condiments: I'm thinking sausages would be perfect with it.

Heatwise, I'm thinking blazing is between blair's original and after deaths, but the taste of the peppers is fantastic: there's no bitterness going on here.

So... that's my first impressions. Apologies that I'm not as competent a reviewer as the rest of y'all. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to settle down in front of the TV and maybe start swigging from the bottle

Question? Is this the arrival of your original order from No. Carolina, or the last attempt by Stirling to send you a couple of bottles after the first were tossed by UK Customs? Either way, thank God you finally got some. Enjoy! - E.Z.

For the life of me, I'm not sure. I think they're the last attempt by stirling.

Update: It's a bank holiday here. I was planning on BBqing, but it's about to rain heavily.

So... today, I had blazing hot on a tuna/mayo/sweetcorn sandwich. Yes, I know, it's a little odd, but I'm the kind of guy who adds defcon 2 to scrambled eggs, and has jalapeno death on toast.

Be that as it may, Blazing Hot works superbly on tuna mayo. You heard it here first. Try it.

Here is a strange happening. Mark from Stirling Foods was having dinner at the "13 Coins", a high end Seattle restaurant, last night when here struck up a converstion with the guy and his wife at the adjoining table. He mention E.Z.'s hot sauces and gave them a taster sample. The guy went bonkers and ordered 20 cases right then and there (on a credit card)to send out across his comapny. He said if it went as well as he expected he would be back to buy a pallet (200 cases). Turned out he is the CEO of a large national corporation involved in petrolium, foods, etc. Also owns a large winery "just for fun"

Nice!!! I wish i could strike up an occasional conversation like that for my business, but i guess nobody in a dive bar is going to have the cash to have a custom paint job done on their bike or car. And yes, keep us posted on how this pans out.

did he try the blazin or the smokin?

Both. In fact the order was for 10cases of each to evaluate with his people. I will keep you all posted on how this goes.
