Ingredients: Habanero Pepper, Vinegar, Tomato, Salt, Spices.

I went to the Downtown Los Angeles market and found this little gem. It has an "Original Mayan Recipe" and only cost me $1.50! Its made out of green (unripe) habaneros so I didn't have high hopes for this sauce, but I was delightfully surprised at its heat and flavor.

Its got a nice bit to it and when used in copious amounts (http://www.thehotpepper.com/showpost.php?p=14670&postcount=19)will leave your tongue hurting. What ever spices they use blends extremely well with the habs and gives this sauce the right balance of flavor and heat. A nice bonus is the consistency, its thick.

Yeah, El Yucateca is the first real hot sauce I ever tried many years ago. Good stuff for the money.

That looks like a more natural color. The green one they do has food color and is this crazy neon green!

You should see what the green one does to chicken....makes them look very unappetizing

El Yucateco is some great stuff a couple years back we had a booth next to them and the employees traded us loads of stuff my favorite was a 4 pack of habanero sauces it had caribbean, xxxtra hot a green habanero sauce and another brownish red habanero sauce actually they gave us enough that we're still having some.
I liked everyone I tried even the neon green one. The XXXtra is real good also. The caribbean is a carrot based sauce that I really like.I like habanero sauces what can I say.

Allow me to rephrase myself....i didn't mean it to sound like i didn't like the stuff...i LOVE the stuff. It's just the neon green stuff tends to make some foods kind of funny-looking, thats all.

I don't know about weddington, but in the Thomasville area, I buy this stuff at Food Lion.

Just look around a little. If your local supermarket doesn't carry it, look around for a "Tienda"

Walmart sells it with in the Mexican section (not with the other hor sauces) for $1.17 a bottle.

The Caribean and XXXHot (Mayan) are also artificial color free, for those who are offended.

I agree with everyone else, I love the stuff and it does have more bang for your buck than almost anything out there.

This brand is pretty widespread. Almost all the Mexican food eateries in town has these, and they're a much better option than anything that says Tabasco on it.

Got to admit, the Green is hotter, but the color puts me off on certain foods. I like the red better, probably becaue of that.

Stop putting glue on your hands and you won't have that problem.

Quoting form the review:
"After applying it way too liberally to a burrito in a drunken stupor one night, I ended up watery eyed and running for more beer (which didn’t help the drunken stupor part and just spread the heat more evenly). "

This is a fairly well commercialized sauce that is found in many Mexican restaurants down South as well as in many supermarkets nationwide. To me I don't like it so much but my friend in TN does. To me the flavor is lacking something and the heat isn't to my standards.

Cheers,

maybe the links is pointing to the wrong sauce now but if you are talking about this sauce here (http://www.pepperfool.com/images/products/verde.jpg)it is one of my 2 favorite mainstream commercial sauces. very nice pepper flavour and good heat but of course the mainstream sauces will only go so hot. I find many of the specialty sauces arent up to the extra money always asked so i tend to only try them with a recomendation.

But i am usually eating my own home made sauces.

A market around me has the bright green and red ones. I always have a couple of these around just for emergencies. I love this stuff. A couple of months ago I found the XXX version of their sauce and finished it almost that day. It's more of a brown color. The stuffs cheap and does the job. Also, I have a mexican restaurant around the corner from me that put it on the tables. Imaguitargod, you live close to me, have you ever heard of the place, La Cabanita?

I used up a bottle of this sauce "el yucateco" awhile ago but it was the red hab version(I dont like green sauces). & yea its priced right (? $1.50 - $2 ?)
but I wasnt so thrilled about the flavour, dont get me wrong it wasnt completely nasty just IMO its a sauce that needs to be mixed into other foods you're cooking so you dont taste it fully.(Ex. chilli - spagetti sauce) its a sauce I wouldnt sit down & eat the sauce on some chips.
the heat is good.

The real Mexican / Mayan version is brown. And much better and hotter than the red or green ones.

el yucateco makes damn good sauces at a damn good price! regardless of which one you get.

so I suppose the only way to get that brown version thats tastier is through finding a online supplier, since I've only seen the red/green versions.

another thing you might not want to think about is at those prices, it makes you wonder how they stack up against our FDA standards  ;)

I've had the pleasure of trying the one you speak of on pizza, its simply delicious.
But I actually discovered the triple x before, and I'm totally in love with it, I just which it came in litre bottles!
I've made some truly excellent guacamole with it, and its always a treat on burritos and nachos!

I'm not much of a guy for sauces that I can get in the store because they aren't usually what I like. However, I do regularly buy this sauce. I actually really enjoy it. If you like sardines douse it on that with some saltines.....GOOD MIXTURE!! I also put a ton of it on my Taco Bell today at work. Very tasty, it takes more to plop on, but like you said if it's doused on it will burn your tongue and it tastes good.

I have read El Yucateco is one of the most used sauces in Mexico. We get it here in Washington state in the small Mexican stores for about $1.89 +/-. According to what I've read the red is an eight on the scale the green a nine and the xxxbrown a ten.
I use it all of time and carry it with me in many eateries.

I've been to the Fireworks Foods store, it's only about a 20 minute drive from my place. nice people that own it. when I went there last year I gave them a whole heap of birdseyes that I bought from Paddys Markets earlier that day.
