Have any of the folks here north of the 49th ever experienced difficulty shipping via UPS to/from the US?

I have a package to ship to a friend in Vancouver, and he almost spit when I said I was gonna ship UPS. Claims that they don't deliver to a residence, so they make you pick up stuff at the terminal and charge a "handling fee" on top of the border taxes.

Any validity to this? This is my first time shipping internationally (I usually just smuggle). He wants me to ship via USPS, which is twice the cost.

UPS is ok but for large packages or bulk shipping. I use USPS and haven't had a problem yet.

Don't ship UPS to Canada. They're really funky about crossing that boarder.

That too. USPS may cost a little extra, but it gets through rather quickly (at least in our history of shipping).

We ordered bottles to Canada that were shipped UPS and were totally taken to the bank with extra border fees, etc. Thankfully have found a bottle supplier in Canada now, but still order shrink bands from the USA.
