I have a friend who lives in California and is in the Air Force. His unit will be shipping out in a few weeks for a 2nd six month tour...could be as long as 18 months.

Anyway, I'm making some sauce to send to him and his platoon/unit (I don't have any hard numbers) with the unit logo on the label.

These guys and gals all work tremendously hard for us (weather you agree or not with the circumstances) and I wanted to give a little back, being an ex Marine myself.

Now, plastic bottles would probably be best and the little 1 ounce bottles even better for portability, but I'll leave that decision up to you if you decide do go along with me.

I'm going to include pictures of me picking the peppers out of my yard, doing the prep work, bottling, and applying labels, along with a note.

I don't have an address yet (he doesn't have that information either) or the unit logo, but I'm working on all of that tonight. I'll also get the unit's nickname, if they have one.

So, who's in?

Ok I have more info.

Looks like 20 - 30 people tops. If I can rally up enough people, I won't have to brew up as much. All I'm asking for is about 5 woozies.

The unit's nickname is "PORT DAWGS". (Aircraft maintenance division)

A unit patch will be comming soon, if you'd like to incorporate it somehow.

Address to follow.

More info: http://www.charityguide.org/volunteer/fewhours/military-care-packages.htm

BTW-- These guys are in the Air force and will have barracks with A/C or a place to store the sauce out of the desert heat. I will have a specific person to send packages to, and he has an armfull of stripes, so things will get distrubited to everyone.

I'll keep everyone up to date. -DD-

Count me in! We have already had a couple orders go to Iraq, but to just the Army units, time to assimilate the Air Force!!!

Send me the specifics. And if they could send some Defcon pics back, we'll add them to our scrapbook.

Gotta keep the troops happy!

If you recieved an e-mail or a private message from me with an address, the time to send would be within the next week. I'm thinking if we can get something in the mail by this comming Monday, the packages should get there just after they arrive.

If you could take some pictures of you packing bottles in boxes or something like that, print them out and put them in the package, I'm sure it won't go unnoticed. Maybe even a little note of support for them.

I'll be hitting the stovetop and brewing up a batch real soon!!!!

If you still want in, it's not too late. This strictly an "on the house" event. I want all the Airmen to feel our support for them (regardless of your feelings about why they are there). They all should have e-mail of one sort or another, so put in an address for them as well.

I'm really looking forward to this!!!!!

EDIT:::: Correction. 368th ELRS/TRF >>not<< 8th ELRS/TRF

Ok...forget the edit. I just got a second conformation for the address.

For those of you who have an address, 8th ELRS/TRF is correct.

If you're completly confused, shoot me a PM and I'll send you the address once more.

I'm brewing some sauce this weekend to send over myself!!!

Thanks again.

allrighty........

If the Department of Homeland Security gets me and you don't hear from me ever again. You know why.

Here it is:

SSgt Chad Shaver
8th ELRS/TRF(EAMS)
APO AE 09309

No more guessing on his part or mine. Just make sure you don't send porn or explosives (some of your sauces might qualify as the latter) and everything will be just fine.

Has anyone sent sauce yet? My package is going to go out on Monday. I'm sending 12 bottles of various recipies.

It takes about 20 days for the package to get there, and the daily temp is still about 110* F.

Kato's would like to send some sauce. We've sent quite a few cases over to Iraq. But would be happy to send more if the invitation is still good. Wish I would have looked earlier.

Ok then.
We'll send some 2 oz sample bottles of the Island sauce and Down South plus a couple bottles of the meaner greener and some datil dust (ground up datil peppers) for that boring chow hall food all though maybe the Air Force chow is better.

Well, I don't know who sent a package, but my friend, Chad, got some sauce he's going to distribute through the ranks. The guy is so excited he can't stand it!

Keep it up hotheads!!!

I believe that was our package as we just received a e-mail from Chad saying that himself and his mates were enjoying the sauce.

Always makes us feel good that we could add a smile to our milatary men & women's faces. They do what counts.
